What travellers are saying
- David M36 contributionsThis show is fantastic, energetic and lots of fun. Brilliant drumming throughout and wonderful dancing with plenty of drama.
Get yourself down there folks; you owe it to yourselves.Written December 21, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This small beach is surrounded by cliffs of reddish volcanic origin. Its waters are of turquoise color and its fine sand is of pink color product of the mixture of the red volcanic slag and the eroded white coral. Certainly worth considering while visiting Anakena beach.Written November 26, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sachin KNew York City, NY5,850 contributionsThis attraction is an interesting one and different from other attractions. One can see an ahu(platform) in ruins with all of its moai fallen face down or on their backs, most likely toppled after the clan wars.
At the entrance to this site one will see some well-preserved ruins of an ancient village with a number of earth ovens (umu pae), the boat-houses (hare vaka) as well as some paved areas which will show you a little of how the people of Rapa Nui used to live. Very close to here you will also find a small cave that was used as shelter for those who did not have a boat house.
Behind the main ahu, one will find another moai that has been toppled as well as an unusually small moais that would have been one of the first ones to be built. Certainly would very highly recommend visiting this attraction to any traveler and especially those who are eager to have an off beat experience on Easter Island.Written November 22, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Moais became a bit 'old hat', so to bring them up to date, people decided to give them 'topknots'. Puna Pau was a place with various colored volcanic rock and so became the place to quarry them. Deep red was obviously the preferred colour. The quarry is at the top of the mountain and one can climb up to see some spectacular views of the island and it’s coast which overlooks the main town of Hanga Roa. Great spot to visit even for the view of the island. Certainly very highly recommended to any traveler.Written November 22, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ruthandvernWilton, CA15,044 contributionsThis was one of the first walks we took and we thoroughly enjoyed witnessing the loving leavings at the graves of the ancients, and not so ancients. This certainly has a mixed bag of symbolism; naturalism, Rapa Nui cultural, Christian elements all expressed in reverance.Written February 11, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sachin KNew York City, NY5,850 contributionsThis site is an offbeat tourist attraction in Easter Island. It is a restored village and gives a good insight into the former lives of Rapa Nui people. Certainly worth visiting with a local tour guide and very highly recommended for the offbeat traveler.Written November 25, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sachin KNew York City, NY5,850 contributionsThis cave is a very short walk from the car park. No need to take jackets or torches here. It is a beautiful collection of cave paintings, in an exposed, open crevice facing off into the Pacific Ocean. Certainly worth considering.Written November 25, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- RjF-LALA223 contributionsLots of beautiful flowers, sculptures. Wonder the scrolling paths and let yourself get lost. The pictures say it all.Written February 19, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Sachin KNew York City, NY5,850 contributionsLocated near the western part of Easter Island, close to soccer field and the port, it is not really a beach. However this bay offers nice scenic views and is worth visiting around sunset.Written November 25, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - buyersrmiPrescott, AZ481 contributionslearning about the meaning and movement of the Moai is a good educational visit for young and old alike. if it were not difficult to get here I would returnWritten April 1, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - NgocVancouver, Canada33 contributionsThis is by the side of the road, you must pay attention or you'd miss it. It was used as a trophy for warriors and was carried around the islands. You can imagine the sound when you blow into the holes.Written September 23, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Unelma333Karlsruhe, Germany1,225 contributionsAhu The Peu is located on the the north coast. It is an unrestored archeological site, so you can see how platforms looked before being restored. It used to be a large settlement, still foundations of boat houses can be seen. The actual platform is severely destroyed. Very interesting were the half-buried moais. Quite significant is a large wall, which reminds of the 'Inca' technique used in Ahu Vinapu, though less sophisticated.
Sea views are beautiful and quite dramatic. There was also a number of wild horses around during the time we visited. We approached from direction Ahu Akivi: take the road left just before the checkpoint to Akivi; soon you will reach another checkpoint for the Te Ana cave circuit (also 3 caves are situated nearby, worth visiting). From here you can continue walking or cycling north to Ahu Te Peu. Another option is coming from town, along the north coast. We took this road back. It is basically only possible to walk, cycling is very difficult because of the road quality. If you are an experienced mountainbiker, you can perhaps do it (my husband managed to cycle it all). If you continue walking to the east, you can do a long (5-6 hour) walk ending at Anakena beach, discovering the untouched north coast.
This is perhaps not the most impressive archeological site of the island, but worth a visit if you have the time.Written November 15, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Front desk customer service is extremely courteous. Complimentary pickup and drop off us available. The show itself is based on Rapa Nui culture and is dominated by extremely high energy dancing by local performers. Certainly would very highly recommend this show to any traveler visiting Easter Island.Written November 21, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
