Tour and tasting of the local Basque wine called txakoli. The location of the Gaintza Txakoli winery is beautiful as the grapevines spread out in all directions plus a good view of the sea and green hills. The hosts were knowledgeable and friendly. It is a family run business and you could see the love of what they do. Of course, the txakoli wine is very tasty.

Absolutely amazing! Loved all of it, perfect amount shown. Even the Josep Font show blew me away. Very out of the way for public transport on a Sunday but still worth the visit.

Getaria is worth a day visit from San Sebastian. Less than 1 hr by bus (UK9,10,11). Great seafood restaurants, some worthy of a reservation. The town is just beautiful with pedestrian streets snaking down to the waterfront with lots of restaurants, pintxos and stores to browse. A walk out to the seaport is beautiful along the wall with great views of Getaria.

A wonderful, family operated winery. The tour was informative and included information about their whole business. The day we visited was bottling the white wine. The tasting after the tour was exceptional. Generous samples along with tasty accompaniments such as fresh tuna and anchovies with delicious bread. Well worth the drive up the hill with the spectacular views of the winery and the bay.

You start walking up the mountain by following the road, which is closed to cars. After a while you will see a walkway, you can take it or continue on the road. The mountain is verdant, the vegetation and tress are magnificent, as are the views up and down the coast and back towards the town of Getaria. There are two objectives at the top of the mountain, the light house and the observation tower. You might encounter carved figures in the rocks or an ancient steam roller and who knows what else. I didn't have time to explore every pathway!

We were lucky that they accepted us for tasting despite not able to get a booking because there is another 2 groups who had opened the bottles. Ane did advise us to book next time in advance as they usually don't take walk in. The Bodegas is beautiful and modern, overlooking acres of Vines by the sea. The tasting experience we had w Ane is amazing as she walked us through the whole range of Txakoli being made there. We are not white lover but the experience changed our opinion about white and how it can be paired w food. We ended up buying 4 bottles...the selection, the roses and the very limited sweet . Thank you for the great experience.

This is a lovely sandy beach and it is looked after by being swept overnight. The dog loved his early morning run along the waters edge. Paid for parking adjacent and a few cafes, bars and restaurants nearby

Estatua Juan Sebastian Elcano is the statue of the most known person of Getaria, because he was the first person to round the world in the Middle Ages. Getaria is a little coastal and gastronomical town in Basque Country. The statue is located in a viewpoint of the harbour, just behind the passage below the main church in the old town. The place, where the statue is located, is a very beautiful little square with restaurants and very nice buildigs. From here it is possible to see the harbour and San Anton Mountain. Very beautiful place and square.

This monument was built to commemorate Juan Sebastián Elcano, a native of Getaria and a courageous sea explorer. He and his crew followed Magellan’s example and completed the first circumnavigation of the Earth.

Architecturally, I did not find this monument appealing though. It looked more like a big grim mausoleum to me than a monument.
