- Barbara1 contributionLovely interesting place to visit just wish more of the castle was open to the public.
Only downside was the visitor toilets they were pretty grim and in need of a thorough clean. Let's the place downWritten December 29, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is quite a walk to the top up very steep roads but don’t worry, you can also drive if you don’t fancy the hike.Written July 19, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - _rawlings_shirleyWitney, UK3 contributionsThe pilot has amazing skill and made our balloon ride really memorable. He look us down over the Dordogne river where we watched kingfishers dart over the water. I have had balloon rides before but never with such a good pilot. The come down was so smooth - hardly a bump. We enjoyed helping pack the balloon away - it engendered a real feel of camaraderie between us all. The coffee and enormous croissant at the end was most welcome. A week later and we are still buzzing from the experience.Written September 8, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Liz D85 contributionsCame with a group of 5 and ordered the set menu. Restuarant was severely understaffed and there was only one waiter for the very busy lunchtime hour. We got there at 12:15 and didn't leave until 2:30 because there was such long wait time to get our initial order, despite one of us asking if we could get our orders, and then a very long wait to get our food, followed by an extremely long wait, and a couple requests for help, to firstly order our desert then ultimately get our order. The food was not bad, except that my coq au vin tasted too strongly of wine which made it taste not that great. We all got the set menu, but when we got the bill they overcharged us by about 30 euros because they charged us for the set menu as well as for the individual items, and my friend had to have quite a discussion (argument) with them before they were willing to take off the charge.Written June 10, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Louise HHuddersfield, UK142 contributionsBefore you climb up to visit the Chateau, the boat trip is a good way to learn about the history of the area and the castles on the banks of the Dordogne. You can see 4 in total although the actual length of river covered is quite short.
The guide was very knowledgeable and spoke in English. (We were recommended a tour when booking to suit us, which was a nice change!) He spoke very well and was open to questions too.
It wasn’t cheap at €8.50 each but it was a pleasant trip and a lovely way to pass an hour. You also got a great view of Chateau Beynac so could take lots of good pics.Written July 7, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. At both ends of the trip the staff could not have been more helpful or cheerful. Everything was beautifully organised (we noticed some really good improvements since our last canoe trip - including checking names as we got on the bus, setting out life jackets in weight bands so you can just select your own and back rests on the canoes).
The scenery is beautiful and our visitors enjoyed the whole experience.Written August 16, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
