Definitely worth the walk. We went twice in the week we were staying in the area - once with the tour group, and later on when we had a free day so that we could explore the castle for longer. The walk from the village of Cucugnan is quite hard - we went up the steep, more direct route, and came down by the longer more gentle track. For the steep route you would be advised to have proper walking shoes or boots, as there were some areas of loose stones which would be hard to negotiate in ordinary shoes. The castle's situation is breathtaking. We also enjoyed watching the film which you can see in the village.

In an area of France where wineries are more common than sachets of ketchup in a New York McDonalds, its rare to find a winemaker who hasn't become jaded by the constant comings and goings of tourists. Not so at Domaine du Grand Arc where we were greeted with the warmest of welcomes and led through a healthy tasting of their products in a space with no pretensions of being a city boutique. Relaxed, informative and good humoured. Excellent wines and good people - a combination I will always try to support.

A pleasant church free to enter and admire. Very sinple layout and decor which gives it a unique charm. The statue, while not unique in its form, is neverthless very interesting to see. Not many like it. Well worth 30 to 40 minutes of you time.

We were delighted to be able to hire electric bikes from Beatrice when we unexpectedly had an extra day in Cucugnan as our flights were changed. It was our first time on electric bikes, so we didn't go very far, but without them we certainly wouldn't have made it up to the Chateau de Peyrepertuse! Beatrice was very helpful, setting the bikes up for us, giving us a lesson in how to use the electric assistance, and showing us a suggested route.

I watched the Queribus film which had fine visuals but after a while the French commentary without English subtitles wears thin and I left. only the French treat tourists like this.
