We walked as a family of 2 adults and our kids age 16 and 14, setting off from the Wentworth Falls picnic area and completing the circular trail in a clockwise direction. The walk is challenging in places, so there is a level of fitness required in order to enjoy. 'Slack Stairs' wasn't as bad as it was made out to be I felt. The infrastructure was secure, though some of the paths along the bottom were a bit rough. We walked at a steady pace and thoroughly enjoyed the walk which took us 3 hours.

This is an easily accessible, stunning lookout point. It is not yet fettered by rails etc, so you can get as close as you dare to the vertical drop off. There is a great spot to sit on the edge for a classic photo - see attached. Accessible from the far end, you can also walk beneath the cliff down to some small but interesting caves. All in all, this is a great off-the-beaten-track viewpoint (not even any signs on the street corners to tell you its there!) that is well worth a visit. No amenities though, so it's really a brief stopover only.

This would be my favoutite of the 3 lookouts along this short stretch of road.

The "Pulpit" is a nice foreground to a commanding view over the valley.

Easy parking and access, well signposted

Stumbled onto this gem after travelling out to Pulpit (which was closed).

This and the Wind Eroded Cave were great. So remote and untouched by the tourist masses that a resident snake even came out to greet us on the way back down.

The drive to the firetrail gate is unpaved, not too many potholes (much easier drive than to kanangra Boyd walls). The 1st firetrail gate is closed making the mostly flat walk from the firetrail gate to Baltzer lookout 5.1km one way. When facing the valley whilst on the lookout, the scramble down to hanging rock is on the left, approx 300m. No one, while I was there, jumped the 80cm to get on to the hanging rock itself.

Had a great time checking out the river. Climbing over boulders, exploring fallen trees, chasing butterflies. Drove down to the camp site - 4wd best (part of six foot track) and went exploring.

We crossed the river balancing on the big rocks. Made our way up to Bowtells Suspension Bridge. It's a wobbly thing, one person at a time. We saw a dead kangaroo, bones, other hikers/campers. Crossed bridge and did the round trip. Not a too hard walk, 4yr old managed well. Maybe 2km. Had picnic when we returned, awesome few hours of fun on way to Jenolan caves.

It is hot in Australia at this time of the year. My trip to Baltzer Lookout is pure fun. God's perfect painting. The pics are worth the pain and heat. Go & walk!

Really good hike in the Blue Mountains National Park. Pretty easy to get to after visiting Katoomba. Only a 5-10min drive from town Centre to head down a unsealed road and start at Golden Stairs. Signs/info desk will recommend 4-5hrs, but can be done in a lot less while still enjoying the views. Once at the end the views are amazing after climbing up onto the rock formation itself.
