Amazing! Views were so amazing! Paths are well informed, you can’t get lost in here. Just following the path by levadas, you’lö find your way from start to end. We took easy path, 11km and it took about 3h time. And we took pictures and two brakes as well. Easy it is not to walk, but seen few old couples on the way too :)

We really enjoyed this walk. We are two fairly fit adults, 9year old and 5 year old. Fairly nervy with the 5 year old at times so constant reminders to look where he was going!! We all really enjoyed it. Walked about 1/4 before having a picnic and walking back.

Parking is on the roadside. Ribeiro was busy with coaches so we walked further up which meant a ‘fun’ steep walk back up at the end. Our calves are grateful for the extra exercise!!

Exciting trail and areas of lovely scenery.

We had a bright sunny day which helped

Cable car is closed to public, but it's worth the hike down. Lovely nature, amazing view on way down/up and mostly quite as many people just stop for a quick photo and not walking down.

BEautiful spot for a picnic in the middle of the forest, quite close to Santana. May hiking trails start here so highly recommend just to walk around :) The parking fills up quickly in the morning and you can pay for it by cash. There is also a cafe which cells soft drinks, tea and coffee and fantastic cakes. Some toasts are available as well!

We visited after a stop in Santana, our kids enjoyed it (2,4 and 6)

Eldest was distraught at the short amount of time she got to drive the radio controlled boat, and was asking for her euro back. I told her there were no refunds and that it was a valuable lesson in value for money. Two minutes was very stingy when we were the only people there.

The cinema experience was cheeky too, we paid (adults) €7 each to basically watch an advert for all the fun things to do in Madeira.

The AFrame houses were cute and we got some fun photos of the kids in those and on a giant banana.

The farm bit was odd. All of the ladies on the site were very polite and welcoming, the guy running the farm was not a people person. He also didn’t seem to care much about the chickens, many of which, including the cockerel, which was limping and appeared to have bumble foot, had feathers missing down to bare skin. Rabbits, goats and ostriches seemed in better condition, but the ostriches had no space to run, which is sad.

Large parts of the site were shut. Overall worth a visit with young children, but needs a bit of work.

We were on a Levada tour to Ribeira Frio from Funchal, but there wasn't any bus in the middle of the day back to Funchal, so we went to Santana to see the amazing ”Casa Tipicas de Santana”. I liked the houses, but there were very few of them left in the centre of Santana. It was a very winding road back in the dark from Santana to Funchal. It took over 2 hours for a journey of about 40 kms.

This is only a short journey, but I would never have managed either the walk down or the walk up!
    Lovely setting and efficient service.
We went on an extremely hot day and when we got to the bottom I didn’t manage to walk far because of the heat so didn’t stay long.
When you get back up it is quite a long steep walk back to the bus stop to get the return bus to Funchal.
Having said all that, the scenery on the bus to Santana was stunning; the views from the cable car and at the bottom are lovely. And we had a very nice lunch in Santana when we got back from the cable car.
Despite the heat, a successful trip!

Beautiful viewpoint on the north side of the island. Easy to drive to by car. It's very quiet there as is the whole side of this island. Great view of the eagle rock en the surrounding bay area

Hike a round the bottom then take the cable car back every 5 min run time. It's a good way to see the farms at the bottom near the ocean

I was dissapointed to find gates closed, with new lock and chain. Looks like the next house made it private for them? I was not able to enjoy the view, because it was not accesible.
I give 5 stars for this place, because it would be not objective to give negative raiting, even if I could not visit it.
