Newstead Abbey

I fell in love with this magical place with amazing sunrise and sunsets, noisy and curious peacocks, Canadian Geese, Swans, beautiful waterfalls, lakes and ponds and the most amazing gardens!
The Abbey itself is fascinating with so many interesting rooms to visit housing a amazing collection of artefacts relating to the history of the Abbey and its owners and the life and times of Lord Byron.

Bestwood Winding Engine House Nottingham 7.6 km away
#16 of 40 Sights & Landmarks in Nottingham
I was with an 11 year old and we both found it fascinating to hear about the workings of the engine and the heritage of the site thanks to a wonderful tour from a volunteer.
I would definitely recommend going on a Saturday between 10-12 whilst the volunteers explain all about the winding house and take you inside and up to the top (don't worry, there's a lift).
