Great morning walk up to the crater. We took the right hand path which is fairly easy going in terms of slope and level ground surface. The last few minutes are quite steep and if you want to walk around the ledge at the top you seriously should not be afraid of heights. I did not venture off the ledge at the top. Views are fabulous the chipmunks 🐿 are really sweet. No camels on the day we went not that I wanted to go up on a camel but interesting to watch. Take some water.

Super cute little vineyard with really passionate woman called Isabella. Bonus points for having cats & chocolate to distract a toddler!

Booked with Simon today, it was fantastic!
He came to pick us up at 9 on the dot as planned, very punctual indeed. From there we proceeded up the country to the outback as such. I was amazed at how well learned Simon was about the island. He pointed out loads of different things, why and when they were built, how they worked. Then as we proceeded to the volcano site he talked about the environment, how it has evolved to it’s present conditions, and what effects that the weather conditions had on the different rocks. I was fascinated by how detailed he talked about plants and rivers that exist. Yes, rivers in particular times of the year. The guy is encyclopaedic of Fuertaventura.
Thinking of a guided tour? Think no more, this is your guy.
    Merci beaucoup Sir.

I enjoyed a marvellous 2 hours with Nikolaus and his beautifully cared for camels.
After leaving “base camp” we spent the first 40 minutes trekking to the bottom of Calderón Hondo.
I dismounted to walk the path up to the top of the Volcano to be greeted by some very tame & hungry squirrels.
My only regret being I had nothing to feed them. Next time I will be prepared and take nuts.
On my return to the bottom 45 minutes later Nikolaus was waiting for the return journey back.
For the 2 hours the cost is €27.00 but don't forget a generous tip €€€ for the camels.
Nikolaus is great company. He speaks fluent English, Spanish, French and his native language German.
I learnt so much from him about camels, Calderón Hondo & Fuerteventura in general.

After some serious research for an artist who works with gold my husband and I found Bernhardt and Cabracadabra. The small town, Lajares, where the store is, the store, Bernhard, the people we’ve met there, the great cheap burgers we had and most of all the custom made wedding rings that Bernhard created for us, made Matt and I so extremely happy. We’ll always be grateful to Bernhard for making our beautiful rings in such a short time and for making our dream come true.
