You will arrive through the medieval city gate and then can walk around to see the little town carved out of tufo, all of its flowers, great views in all directions, and many very nice restaurants.
Amazing views and so much history, visit the churches and make sure to stop and eat.

An absolutely beautiful chapel in the Duomo's interior...well worth the visit...Buy a "Carta Unica" to visit many wonderful sites in Orvieto..it's worth the price!
Adjacent to the former St Agostino church there is a small medieval church, S. Giovenale, that is well worth a visit as well as the views to the valley from here.

... charming streets (where you can greet some of Orvieto's friendly local senior citizens enjoying the sun on their doorsteps with 'Buongiorno') you will arrive at this church and spectacular views over the valley.
Wonderful to experience the atmosphere, architecture and frescoes that have been on this site for 1000 years.

We were told it is only on view two or three times a year.
At this time, the "miracle cloth" is not displayed, and the chapel is restricted for those who wish to pray...you may look at the lovely frescoes inside, but you can't view them close up.

Climb to the top of the bell tower and view the landscape its fabulous, especially important wrt Orvieto being on a volcanic plug and therefore raised well above the surrounding area.
I was rewarded with incredible 360 degree views of the countryside and all of the major sights in the city of Orvieto.

A good day trip from Rome, amazing small streets, the church, the people, its history and the view to The Valley from above.
Great views, very clean and very medieval in nature.

The best spot in the whole town for getting amazing views of the Umbrian countryside.
You can get up here on a train from the town in the valley, as you come out of the train station turn left and you can walk through the gates and gain a wonderful view

Rocca dei Papi Montefiascone 11.3 km away

The building itself is interesting, but what makes this place special is the wonderful view on the Bolsena lake, which can be mostly appreciated from it, and especially from the tower.
I think the best views are from the gardens outside the fortress, which offer great views of Lake Bolsena.
