What travellers are saying
- Maggie B25 contributionsWe went on Thursday around 5PM. Crowd was okay, but grew as the evening went on. Gorgeous views. Great music! Food was excellent! I heard Sunday is very crowded. I am definitely glad we went on Thursday!Written February 24, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- JetstreamSurferNorthern California, CA110 contributionsWe visited here in early March 2025, with adult family on a day trip from our cruise ship. The water temperature was cooler than I expected albeit absolutely beautiful! The ocean color was an exquisite tropical turquoise with glints of bright cobalt blue.
We entered through Ana’s on the Beach and rented lounge chairs with umbrellas. (Actually, my sister-in-law and her husband paid, I think $30 U.S. for two loungers and an umbrella?) Darn, I didn’t confirm the cost, sorry. Well worth it when the blazing sun was out, however we were fortunate enough to have scattered high clouds which helped beat the heat.
As others have written, Sandal’s Resort does dominate a large majority of the beach right here.
Our section of nearly white, soft sandy beach was more than adequate and not overly crowded at all. It was pleasantly relaxing.
Our lounge chairs were comfortable and we enjoyed cooling off in the water where we were happy to see that no rocks were submerged. Bare feet? No problem. Water shoes not necessary here!
There is a relatively large, protruding and elevated rock peninsula walkway that separates the water between Ana’s and Sandal’s. It may be important for some folks to note that while we were there, a man fishing on this “pier” unexpectedly caught an eel. So for that reason, I recommend not climbing on those rocks and to keep your eyes open while walking in the water, very close to them. Many, if not all eels, have super sharp teeth.
There were wave runners available to rent with provided life jackets, for $80 U.S. for 30 minutes. Apparently the need for a valid drivers license, insurance or any course for training on operating a personal watercraft is simply not required. Insert small tone of sarcasm. (Obviously this is Antigua and not the U.S.) Our 23 year old son handed over cash and was given a life vest and a wave runner. No questions asked. Fortunately he is a very skilled watercraft operator with a valid California boating license. I write this as informational only, for those who may be unfamiliar. Personal watercraft absolutely 𝐝𝐨 𝐧𝐨𝐭 have brakes and they 𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫. They operate nothing like motor vehicles do. Be safe, informed, have fun and don’t get hurt.
We bought beers and small snacks (delicious battered onion rings and French fries) from the friendly bartender at Ana’s. Since we had rented lounge chairs and umbrellas we were allowed to use their restrooms as well. They were clean and functioned as expected.
Overall, we relaxed and enjoyed a very lovely day on this beautiful beach along Dickenson Bay. It was the perfect way to savor our last day in a port.
I hope this information is helpful to others visiting here! Enjoy~Written March 14, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. However, our tour guide was knowledgeable.
Don’t take this tour as part of a package with another tour you won’t have enough time to look at everything or have lunch there.
For those that are interested in Marine History the Museum is very good.

The cool morning breeze, soft sand, and peaceful waves made every step feel effortless. As the sun came up, the water turned the most beautiful shades of blue and turquoise, it was absolutely breathtaking. It wasn’t just a workout, it was a moment to soak in the beauty, clear my mind, and enjoy the simple joy of moving.Written February 21, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Josie CBrighton, UK593 contributionsFabulous beach approx 40 minutes from cruise terminal. Sunbeds and umbrellas reasonable priced plus food options and drinks from sunbed man. - JannersMashpee, MA21 contributionsWe got off the boat at the cruise pool and went directly to the taxi service. It was on the $10 each way to Darkwood Beach because we shared a taxi with others. On arriving the driver agreed a time to come and pick us up. We went into the Darkwood beach bar where it was only $10 for the chairs and an umbrella on a beautiful beach with very few people. It also had free Internet and waiters who would come to you for food and drinks a super day at the beach.
Support the local taxi service and the locals. The ships do excursions to the beaches but overprice them and you’re not there for the same amount of time. I would highly recommend you use the taxi services. They will ensure you get back to the boat on time.Written March 15, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. One of the best beaches on any island in the caribbean. 10$ cab ride from the pier - $20 for 2 chairs and an umbrella and make sure you go to Dennis’ Restaurant and ask for Jay!Written February 27, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Robert M3 contributionsIf location is everything then Jolly Beach has it by the bucket full. The beach and sea are spectacular, and worth going for on their own. We have been to many Sandals hotels, other than Negril, none have anywhere near as good a location as Jolly Beach. The hotel had been shut for a long time, and before that it was in need of renovation and new owners. It is good to see they now have new owners that are putting money into what will soon be a fantastic resort again. Whilst we were there the large beachside pool and bar were being totally restored and are almost finished and look great. Food was good although only one restaurant was open at a time due to needed repair work, once finished they will have four or five to choose from. We paid for a king or queen room and they are well worth the extra cost. Our room was in very good condition with a great sea view, and we were told block by block, the rooms were to be totally refurbished. Because of the way Jolly Beach is there should be little disruption to guests whilst the work is carried out. For some reason they have started charging for the rooms to be daily serviced and to use the sport/beach facilities, that I think is wrong, it is all/inc . For us the worst thing was the noise called music played by the DJ, it is often rap with words that are verbal pornography and often advocating degrading violence to women. It should not be played in any decent hotel. The DJ clearly has no idea of culture or decent music or acceptable standards. Sadly this 'music' seems to be played everywhere in Antigua to the degradation of the island as a whole. I would certainly go back to Jolly Beach, once finished it will be fantastic.Written May 18, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - chrissieb94Dorset, UK3,582 contributionsThe bridge is in a National Park in the Willikies area. It is a natural arch and there are several blow holes. Waves and erosion have caused this effect. Spectacular photos and fantastic views. Well worth a visit.Written March 14, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SampheCardiff, UK618 contributionsGreat fun with great photo opportunities and it was lovely to get the opportunity to hold and feed baby piglets.
I booked direct online which was straightforward.
I asked about booking a water taxi and was sent a link with a video of where to find the water taxi. The video says there would be someone with a clipboard saying ‘Pig Paradise’, but there wasn’t.
Other people were having the same issue. We finally found a boat that said they could take us. There were about 15 of us on the boat and to be honest, the boat wouldn’t pass health and safety in the UK! They had to tighten up one of the bench seats before we got going. But the 2 lads driving it were erratic, they didn’t seem very safe. Other boats were going to the beach too, the people driving those boats were travelling at a safe speed. Ours were going in and out of coves at speed and going far too close to the rocky coastline at times. They thought it was funny, but people on board were concerned.
Anyway we made it there and back in one piece (just about). The beach was stunning. The staff were really informative and give lots of info, followed by a quiz at the end.
There was free rum punch or water for the duration.
Unfortunately I got bitten by a piglet which bled quite a lot. Which meant I went for a tetanus when I got back to my cruise ship, but it was just one of those things. Just a warning to be careful.
Overall I would recommend a visit. Just don’t use the guys in the boat in my photo, and watch your fingers with the piglets!Written February 9, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - VcalsHolbrook, NY901 contributionsBeautiful beach that isn’t crowded like other beaches in the Caribbean I have been to. It is very accessible to all the hotel guests and even to people at Five Islands. Would highly recommend to anyone staying in the area.Written December 2, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
