Due to high winds and heavy rain forecast our cruise port stop for Turk & Caicos got changed to Amber Cove! Disappointed but we were not disappointed having never been to Puerto Plata! We arrived to unpredictable weather so went to where all the tour busses were under the shelter to find the “ lime green shirts” ! For $20 each (9 of us) in an AC van off we went from 10-130 when the rain finished our tour! Our gentleman was so informed about the history, agriculture of the farms, trees, samples of berries! Maimox rum factory for a tour & tasting & Choc factory. We then went through the main downtown area to see the pink alley, Umbrella St. jewelry stores. Our plan was to try local cusine for lunch but Mother Nature had another plan! He drove us to the fancy homes before taking us back to port in Amber Cove!

Amazing adventure and a must do in DR -- large group led by amazing locals. Remember to bring cash to support them and their businesses in between stops.

    Elias was great!
He explained the sites we were going to and even took us to different sites we asked about.
Even turned around so we could get a pic of the Puerto Plata sign and Neptune's statue.
Lastly, the restaurant we sat at for lunch was so good. A ton of locals were eating there, and we understood why now.

A great way to support local businesses.

Well worth the money! Less than 1/2 the price of the cruise excursion! We got VERY muddy, but we were prepared for that. It's a combination of cow manure, run off and rain so if you are timid about this, this is not for you. The beach stop allowed us to rinse off halfway through and we had a delicious handmade pina colada in a pineapple - $10 worth every penny! We snapped an axel towards the end and the team there didn't seem to sweat it. They put us on our own 4 wheeler to head back! Great time - bring goggles and face mask! This was the highlight of an otherwise crappy cruise provided by NCL. Only didn't rate excellent as our instructions could have been a little clearer. I was familiar with driving something like this so it wasn't a big deal for me. Also a little tough finding them at port as they went by a different name.

The tour itself was great! We drove along some back road country areas in the Dominican Republic. The people we passed as we rode by were very friendly, and it was good to see, donkeys, cows, and the occasional goats grazing. The pace of the tour was ideal, so both beginners, like my sister, and more seasoned TV drivers like myself could enjoy it. I have done this type of activity about five times before, but this was the best tour, yet! There was some rugged terrain, paved streets, mud puddles, rocky areas, small hills, and flat road to drive upon… So you get a good sense of what the ATV could handle, and it was great fun moving from one type of terrain to the other. And the best part of it all, was that the whole tour was about an hour long! Unlike the ATV tours in the US, which are high priced, and you only get to ride for 20 minutes to half an hour.

Johnny, the driver, was friendly and helpful to my sister, who had mobility issues, and he spoke and understood English very well. He made us feel safe and comfortable with him, and he made us laugh. Unlike the first two drivers we had in the DR, Johnny's transportation prices were fair and not overly inflated because we were tourists. As a result of his honesty and good attitude, we hired Johnny to take us on all the other tours we went on in the DR, and every where else we had to go... And by the end of our 3 week vacation, we were friends.

Another pleasant surprise was that the tour guides took photos and a short video of you, riding the ATV on the tour, and sent it to you, at no charge at the end of the tour. THANK YOU so much! Overall, my sister and my experience on this four wheel ATV tour was great! And I most highly recommend it to anyone seeking a little adventure!

We had an excellent time with our 14 and 17 year old kids. They rode double with us on the ATV, and really enjoyed travelling through the countryside. The workers are all very nice and really do their best to make sure your safe and having a good time.

Amazing excursion!. Pick up on time with a great driver. Falls were beautiful and loads of fun. Hike was quite the workout but worth it! The stop on the way back to tour various plants/fruit trees and cigar making was very informative. Bring cash! Highly recommend.

I would highly recommend this excursion. We had the most fantastic time and our guide, Ethan was charming and took some fantastic photos. Expect it to be crowded but we didn't really feel like it was a problem - t was a lovely environment, the guides made it entertaining and kept encouraging us to keep moving. Special thanks for Ethan & our driver, Miguel(?)

Our tour was with Destination Services.
We enjoyed our tour very much. The cable car was probably our favorite part of the tour. It was a little disappointing, due to the weather the views were not quite as we had expected them to be. But no one can control the weather! The extremely pushy sales people were, an unfortunate con to this tour. There were a lot of extremely insistent sales people at many of our stops. If you are not intending to purchase anything, this may not be the tour for you. We visited a rum factory, which handed out lots of samples, a chocolate factory that handed some samples a jewelry factory that really really really wanted you to pay a lot of money for some jewelry, and a cigar factory that really wanted us to purchase cigars. It was very interesting to watch the process and procedures for making all the different items we were able to see it would be nicer if the sales people were not quite so in your face.
The sales people at the top of the cable car ride, and at the fort were by far the worst.
Our tour guide was Rosie, and he was fantastic! He spoke multiple languages, and was able to provide information for each traveler in the language they were most comfortable with. Our driver was Victor, and he was fantastic, especially considering how crazy the traffic seems to me with all the motorbike zipping about.
One thing that I did not enjoy about the tour was unexpected time that felt wasted to me. The first complete our of the tour was simply riding the bus around to different resorts, picking up other tourists.
We also were very late finishing the tour. This may have been because of all of us on the tour (people kept breaking off from the group…)
The lunch was delicious and we were able to get pictures at all the Purrta Plata sites.
Just be careful -if you don’t want to spend the entire day on a tour, it may not be the tour for you !

We really enjoyed the time spent with Xander. He was very informative, helpful, and kind. The excursion was put together well and organized. The reason I cannot give a 5 star is because at the Christus Redentor Statue we were encouraged to buy souvenirs for a good price without tax. After using my credit card, I found out I was charged tax and charged more than the price I was told for the items. Doing this excursion, wait and buy items at the shops at the end of the excursion and do not buy from the top of the mountain before the tram.

We signed up for this adventure as part of our cruise. Overall, we had a great experience. The guides, photographers, and staff could not have been friendlier. Zero complaints!!! Here is what I would say that may help you to have a more enjoyable time. First, the shoes are not the best. We brought our own water shoes, and they were a train wreck. The ones offered by the park are not much better. If you have a tennis shoe version of a water shoe, wear it!!! If you have any back, neck, knee issues....I think I would avoid this. We all like to think it will not be a problem, but it will be. It indicated that lunch was provided....we were never offered that. It was a long day, and we were very hungry when it was all over. There were several groups moving along at the same time, so there were delays at the water falls and zip lines. Have fun!!
