Totally recommended to make this visit. The views are impressive and the park up on the mountain is out of this world. incredible fauna and flora.

We swam with the dolphins. Fed the Love Birds, ate lunch at the restaurant inside of Ocean World. Well kept area, nice day. Workers were friendly.

i will say right away that horseback riding is not my preferred cup of tea. haha it is the wife that loves these animals. that said, we traveled here for our anniversary and her birthday so how could i say no.
we used this ranch many years ago when staying in the playa dorada complex. it was fun then and it was fun again.
they are very close by the complex so transport back and forth is quick and easy. we went in slow season so we were the only 2 riders which was nice.
the business has changed hands recently and the latest owner has apparently made some changes. they have some new animals and some update equipment.
the horses seem to be in very good condition and well cared for. so did the many friendly dogs that share the ranch.
both Angel and Alex have been here for many years and are great staff.
our booking agent originally had us booked with another operator in sosua. we were not too happy about having to travel that far back and forth so we were very happy when they changed at the last minute. we did not ask why.
pick up was on time. the pace was very leisurely. we had a beautifully scenic ride into the hills. some spots offered a great ocean view with a cool breeze while others were sunny and hot.
there is a stop along the way (thank god haha) to rest the horses (and the riders) where you can have a water or soft drink. beer is avail for purchase along some gifts if you like.
helmets are mandatory. closed toed shoes are always a good idea but if you only have sandals make sure they are secured strapped sandals and not loose flip flops.
this is a great way to see the countryside and much quieter than the buggies or atv's.
if you are considering riding as part of your vacation then choosing Lorilar is the right way to go.

We visited Mount Isabel de Torres as part of a cruiseline excursion, so we took a small bus from Puerto Plata up to the top. It was foggy and drizzled rain for half the time we were in the park but that didn't dampen our enthusiasm for the beautiful flowers and plants along the paths in this well-kept park. We were able to catch a glimpse of the town from where the cable cars usually disembark, and the fog lifted enough for us to snap a picture of the Christ statue.

There are several paths to walk which when it is wet can be a little bit treacherous, but they do have handrails and steps to assist.

This is a Carnival Corporation owned gated area. Only Carnival, Princess, and Holland America ships dock here. There can be up to 2 ships at a time. The area that is cruise owned is right there with the pool area and the shops. Beyond the gates is the rest of the Dominican and taxi’s to Puerto Plata which would be the main city there. If you choose to stay in the cruise ship area, to the left is the shopping area. There are many different shops like clothes, chocolate, jewlery, cigars, etc. To the right is the pool area. The pool is large with a lazy river type concept but without the current. The only shade is really under the bridges and those areas get taken quickly. The pool is nice and refreshing. They also play music and do some pool party vibes. Get there early if you can to get prime lounge chair seating in the shade and get into a still empty pool. Once both cruise ships have more people getting off, most of the loungers get taken (and there are a lot) and the pool becomes people soup. There is also a splash pad area for the kiddos. There is a swim up bar which is cool but has outrageous prices. They also serve food at the restaurant with outrageous prices also. There is a skyview bar that you can walk up to for some good views and drinks as well. There are two waterslides that cost $5 for unlimited rides all day. The lines were long. There is also a zipline that literally goes over the pool for $45/person or something and lasts like 30 seconds. Also you could rent umbrellas for your pool chairs somewhere in the neighborhood of $30. It was cool to walk around and see the forested beauty of the domincan (from what you can see there) and it was cool to check out the shops. But I think next time if you aren’t taking an excursion then you are better off just staying on the ship and having a relaxing empty pool day on the ship.

Beautiful views! There just wasn't enough places to sit and enjoy the beauty and relax. And there is a lack of shade.

Good trip. We arrived at approximately 10:30 am and made our way towards the entrance of the park. The park was on the smaller side, but did contain a decent amount of space to roam around and enjoy the scenery. The Catedral San Felipe was located directly next to the park, and there were quite a few locals trying to sell various items, along with taxi rides.

Tip: I recommend spending 15 minutes here if you truly want to see everything.

While I don't make shopping for jewelry a priority when I travel, my wife wanted to take a look. We went inside and casually browsed. As expected, a salesperson approached and began asking what we were looking for. I was vague in my response and went off on my own while my wife continued speaking with the sales guy. When I rejoined them I began listening to the conversation and looking at the pieces being discussed. While doing so we had to leave the store before making a purchase but told them we would return in an hour. We did return but our timing aligned with the salesperson just left for lunch. They were very understanding and insisted they would call him back from lunch. While we said that was not necessary and we didn't want them to do that, I think they did recall him early. We continued our browsing and discussions. He was very non-pressure and asked all the right questions and listened to our answers, ultimately arriving at my wife's favorite piece. We bought a necklace/pendant that included the unique Larimar gemstone, very beautiful. My only regret is that I didn't purchase a pendant that I really wanted my wife to buy instead of the one she chose. I will look on their website but I don't think the pieces containing Larimar are available. We want to single out Gabriel for commendation on the excellent sales experience he provided and look forward to seeing him again if we go back to Amber Cove.

It’s a pleasure seeing a smiling friendly face when exiting the airport. We’ve been using Jesus for several years as our transportation in the Puerto Plata area. He’s a safe driver even with all the lunatics on the road. Always prompt and keeps you informed. We also had his son drive us a couple of times, taking after his father. We are looking forward to next year being greeted by Jesus for the start of our vacation!

We had a wonderful excursion up in the hills above Puerto Plata lead by “Crazy” Alex. We were experienced riders, and Alex recognized that, so he allowed us to move out at times and even gallop for a short distance. The horses were Passover finos, which meant that they had very smooth gaits. All in all, a very enjoyable experience!

I was at this show for my birthday and the staff was very friendly. The entertainers were very talented. It was a little crowded but we met some wonderful people. Overall it was a good night.
