We did this excursion through our cruise ship. We had a great time! Other reviews had me nervous that it wouldn’t be a great day, but it was a perfect day! Ferries picked us up in port and shuttled us to the dock at Catalina Island. The staff were waiting for us and quickly got our chairs and umbrellas set up for us. Facilities were good. There is a nature trail with signage showing what animals inhabit the island. The beach is beautiful and clean. There wasn’t food available, but we knew that before we came and packed accordingly. We would definitely do this again!

It’s a fairly decent trip! Expensive though.

you do get to see really rural and quite impoverished people, especially the villages or those working in the sugarcane fields.

As a couple, we paid $170 which gets you one vehicle to share, kind of rubbish you’d both hoped to have your own (like some groups of lads did) luckily my wife didn’t fancy the drive so we where okay.

A scenic 16th century Mediterranean village created in 1976, on the shores of "Río Chavón", houses the campus of a very important Dominican institution - the "Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design". It was founded in 1984 and offers courses on Digital Design, Graphic Design, Fashion Design, Illustration and Fine Arts. The initiative provides art and design education to talented and qualified students, with scholarships being granted to those that cannot afford the connected costs. Its association with "Parsons The New School for Design" allows the most talented to pursue further studies in its New York's campus. Take your time and stroll along the village of "Altos de Chavón", home of this important experience. And don't forget to bring your cameras! Fond memories to take home! Enjoy!

You definitely have to experience the beautiful beach while visiting. It felt so good to relax in the waters of the Caribbean and look out at the expanse of blue. Relaxation to the Max!!!

    Very informative and yet sad.
The history of the indigenous peoples is all to common.

While visiting "Altos de Chavón", you cannot miss "The Art Gallery". A small gallery exhibiting paintings, photographies, drawings, sculptures and crafts by international and Dominican artists, even including works by the local students of the "Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design". A quick visit and an opportunity to buy works of future famous artists, encouraging and rewarding their efforts toward their future careers. Enjoy!

The course was magnificent. Seven holes truly made by God. Very easy to score and kept in great condition. The challenge is keeping your head down when there's so much to see. Manager Steve is amazing. Helped w everything. Typical American housewarming feeling. Food was great and staff was fantastic. Top 20 course for sure in the world.

Stopped by here with my Dominican family for lunch. There is a wide choice from Pizza to Chicken and more. A few shops to browse round. Spend an hour or two here

I visited this place in December of 1980, with some classmates who had heard about it, I found enlightening, some what educational, and over all enjoyable.

I did not expect the elevation variations of this course, especially on the Marina 9 holes. I was pleasant surprised and may even say the Marina/Chavon 18 is just as good or better than Teeth of the Dog.
