We didn’t stay in San Juan however I wish we had stayed there. The Old town of San Juan was great! We walked the perimeter walk around the fort and it was very memorable. A must do!!
Then we continued into the Old Town and had lunch at Barrachina. The best paella we’ve eaten and it lays claim to creating the Original Pina Colada. You get to see the beautiful colored buildings as you walk through the town.

Hiking was great. Hiking boots or sturdy shoes are definitely required. Get to the park early at opening because parking is limited!

This is an absolute must see but Be CAREFUL! Do not get caught up in guided tours around Culebra and snorkeling schemes. Get yourself a ferry ticket in advance, take a taxi in Culebra off the ferry and enjoy your beautiful day at Flamenco Beach with rental/own snorkeling equipment! Maybe a private deep water trip may be better but nothing shallow will get you anything Flamenco won’t give you. Cheers!

Founders tour was great. It was cool to see everything Edwin had to show to us. He was very knowledgeable and you could tell he has a deep understanding of what he was showing us. Thank you Edwin for the great experience!

Biobay tour with Jake and Ryan. Beautiful evening with a half moon. We learned so much about the dinoflagellates from Ryan, who is truly passionate about the science and teaching others!! The water sparkled even with the moonlight. It was a perfect experience!

At this point we've seen a lot of island forts, so from that respect it isn't all that unique if you've seen something similar with NPS on the mainland. However, it does seem far more expansive and the views are spectacular from many directions. The park did a nice job with explaining how the use of the fort has changed from Spanish to American to NPS / peacetime over the decades as well.

Go to El Morro first! But then find the movie theater at San Cristobel to see an overview of the history and rest your feet in an air-conditioned room!

Put on your walking shoes because there is so much surface area to cover! Castillo San Felipe del Morro is breathtaking and the views are phenomenal. I spent roughly 2 hours here learning so much about Puerto Rico’s rich history.

We visited San Juan at the beginning of September. Wonderful weather. Very warm and humid but at the height of hurricane season we only saw a quick rain storm! The water is rough for sure. Red flags were up daily. We did swim despite the warning. Water is warm but waves are rough. Next time we will visit Isla Verde. Condado is very walkable. Bring a hat, wear sunscreen and hydrate to combat the humidity!

Icacos is so beautiful and definitely worth a trip. My friend and i used captain mingo and I would highly recommend. Captain mingo was punctual for drop off and pick up times. He also provided a small cooler and umbrella for us to use. Thanks captain mingo.

We stopped here for dinner after a bio-bay kayak tour. We sat outside and enjoyed rehashing the tour while we waited for our dinners. It's good that we had a lot to talk about because we waited a long time. We had fish tacos and grouper both with and without the shrimp on top. They were all very good, as were the beans. They managed our gluten-free and garlic-free needs beautifully.

Need sneakers/closed toe/strapped sandals. If you google “cueva del Indio” it will direct you to the large parking with someone charging $10 per person to enter private property. It’s a busier entrance and walking area. If you google “cueva del Indio ALTERNATIVA” it will direct you to a small pull off parking on the side of the road (maybe 5-6 cars total) and you enter for free. There is a sign and a bridge to cross. Once on the other side you have to walk west/left to get to the caves close to the other entrance. There are natural steps, nooks and crannies to explore. The day we went it was too windy and rough to go down but you can see the carvings on the walls. If you walk east/right it will bring you to more arches and beach. You can also see on google maps “DWS” (deep water solo) for some free bouldering/climbing, but again the day we went the winter waters were too harsh. Typical PR gorgeous scenic views.
