What travellers are saying
- williamwilkieSwindon, UK27 contributionsLovely beach with a good choice of amenities, food and drink. You can buy "Bake and Shark" at the many outlets available and also a variety of refreshments at reasonable prices. The only let down was the "Sun Lounge Touts" who are trying to get your business before you can get out your car. The beach are could do with a clean which the local businesses could invest in thus ensure the tourists want to come back. There are a lot of stray dogs around the area and they are treated quite cruelly by the locals as well as tourists.Written August 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Island SueHertfordshire, England9 contributionsWe spent a week at this stunning lodge, enjoying the trails with the bearded bellbirds and manakins doing their displays, as well as trips out to other areas in Trinidad. It is a wonderful place for birdwatching with views over the valley where toucans, parrots and many other species fly in and the activity of hummingbirds, honeycreepers and tanagers on the feeders is a sight to behold.
The guides are all great, brilliant at finding birds we would not have seen on our own and very patient with our efforts to remember the names of all the species and see the birds they were pointing out ( Potoos look so much like bark on a tree!)
All the staff at the centre are warm, friendly, nothing is too much trouble, and the food was very good - tasty, fresh and varied every day.
The rooms recently built by Hadco, have every luxury. They are spacious, with very comfortable beds and linen and are spotlessly clean.
The only slight disappointment was that the oilbirds were not in the caves so we were unable to do that trip. Hopefully they will return, which means we will have the pleasure of going back to stay there again.Written February 26, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We made our own way there in a hire car and was allocated a guide on arrival. It was interesting to hear about the area and to walk across the lake.Written June 10, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Anthony SBrisbane, Australia1,863 contributionsThe boat trip starts off through the Number9 Canal, a man made canal leading into the swamp and there are plenty of birds along the way. Once I to the swamp there were flamingoes to add to the interest.
The highlight of the trip is the evening return to roost of hundreds of Scarlett Ibis. Unfortunately you are a couple of hundred metres away from the roost but it is still great to see the birds fly in.Written March 22, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. On the north side of the park in the Royal Botanic Gardens, a zoo and a performing arts center. Along the west side of the park are impressive examples of colonial architecture with structures known as the Magnificent 7. Many festivals are held in the park, and this is a place for locals to come and relax or participate in recreation activities.Written January 15, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - justformemoriesToronto, Canada50 contributionsThis beach was so beautiful and well-maintained. The locals working in this area were respectful. We spent several hours sitting along the beach, going in the water & watching kids playing cricket. The only recommendation I have is to make sure that you bring bug spray. There are little flies & their bites sting!Written January 14, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Christine PTrinidad and Tobago1 contributionThis place is Phenomenal, I love birds but a deep hummingbird lover and my other half knowing this surprised me on my birthday and took me to Yerette. The experience was mind blow and Mr.Theo did an amazing job sharing his wealth of knowledge on these beautiful little creatures that are powerhouses. This experience was nothing short of remarkable. We Thoroughly enjoyed, more visits to come. Thanks to Mr. Theo and his wife for the great experience. - Robert DBrooklyn, New York5,465 contributionsI enjoyed my visit to the Emperor Valley Zoo. You can follow a path around the circumference of the zoo and see nearly all of the animals. You can easily spend an hour or two looking at the variety of animals. Many of the animals are native to Trinidad, but they also have several exotic species on display. (All of the animals in my photos are native to Trinidad.) There are informative signs that describe the animals.Written May 31, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - doublemdoubletClifton, VA1,405 contributionsThis is a free - no cost- walking paradise. Several paved pathways loop all around the sloped hillside garden. Flowering trees along the flats, more exotic plantings and trees the deeper and higher you meander about. Except for signage there is little guidance and no maps available. Still, it’s a beautiful bargain to explore and get your steps in. Lots of local birds squawking at the zoo birds.Written February 4, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MsSylviaMOklahoma City, OK238 contributionsVisited this monastery as part of a ship shore excursion. The views were spectacular. The church is very peaceful and a nice place for prayer and meditation. There is also a well stocked gift shop (which accepts credit cards). The monastery is located in a very serene location in the mountains. We very much enjoyed our visit!Written February 5, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Doctor H8 contributionsMake sure you are properly clothed. They are strict! No arms or legs out, and no tight clothing. I was sent away due to my legs and had to purchase pants at local store.Written February 16, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DanielRochester, MI3 contributionsMarlin did a great job with our tour!! This was the highlight of our trip. The waterfall hike was awesome and we got to swim in the waterfall!! The drive to and from the waterfall is 1 hour 45 minutes but the ride was so worth it. On the way back, we got to stop for the famous shark & bake sandwich and swim at the Maracas Beach. Definitely would recommend water shoes for the hike as it’s through water and rocks.Written March 30, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
