While it can get overwhelming with every vendor shoving a menu in your face, it was a great place to try lot of Oaxacan snacks like tlayudas (like a Oaxacan version of pizza) and tamales.
Its a large, very dense market with lots to see - easy to get lost in it - I usually made a mental note of which entrance I came in and what shops were right there at the entrance door to keep my bearings.

I visited this artisanal market after shopping in an artisanal street fair, several shops, and along thoroughfares in the city center.
The shops don't start opening up until at least 10:30-11:00am because most people are arriving from Mitla, or neighboring pueblos, but it's well worth the wait.
