What travellers are saying
- Deanosaur89Edmonton, Canada8,617 contributionsThis is the original mega mall and was the world's largest mall up until 2004. Having been to some of the largest malls in Asia I can say that this mall still holds up in terms of amenities, shopping and dining options but it is understandably a little aged. There are a number of anchor tenants here and some fun options targeted largely towards families like the World Waterpark, Galaxyland, indoor skating rink and the large lake area. The mall is working to recruit new retail partners and restaurants to remain exciting. There are over 800 shopping options here including stores that are unique to the mall or amongst the first of their chain to be in western Canada or Alberta. There are at least 20 sit down restaurants but there are around 100 dining options here with a lot found in the food courts.
Activities at the mall can be pricey but there are occasional deals and coupons to get discounts on the activities. There is no shortage of parking here but it gets very busy and crowded during holidays (especially around Christmas). West Edmonton Mall is a transportation hub for the west side of Edmonton with busses going to and from all areas and there is construction around the mall for a new LRT line opening in 2028. There are a number of hotels near the area including one with direct access to the mall.
Going to the mall is no longer a top destination in Edmonton but it still remains an interesting option. The mall is constantly changing and evolving but is trying to catch up to trends. If you go you could easily spend a few hours here but do your research to see if it is something you'd want to do because you can easily spend a full day here if you're into it.Written August 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I can't believe that my first visit here only took place last August. This facility is owned by the City of Edmonton and operated by the Fort Edmonton Management Company. A visit to the park is really to live and to understand what it means to have an Edmonton heritage as well as giving you an understanding of being an Albertan. We have a similar facility in Calgary, that being Heritage Park. It is so wonderful that there have been people so diligent in helping to preserve these reminders of our history and past.
Fort Edmonton Park is situated on a 64 hectare plot of land that lies in the North Saskatchewan River valley. When you enter the park, you proceed to the fully functional steam train which takes you to the far end of the park, here is where you should begin. You depart at the newly opened (in 2021) Indigenous Peoples Experience Pavilion, a very worthwhile exhibit hall, and from there you proceed back to the entrance. Your next visit will be the reconstructed 1846 HBC fort and as you continue, you come to reconstructed streets dating from different periods of Edmonton's history, 1885, 1905 and 1920, ending up at a reconstructed Midway from 1920. Each of these "streets "contain buildings and structures pertaining to that respective era in Edmonton history. This is all well done and is an ongoing project, so expect more expansion and improvements in the future. To add to the reality, you will also encounter costume historical interpreters throughout the park. Refreshments and restaurants are also conveniently located where and when you need them.
The 2024 season has not begun as of yet, so check their website for offers, admission prices, opening dates and times. The price of admission includes train rides and streetcar rides.

They have done a great job explaining the different parts of the world and the related plants. Each pyramid has a different internal layout so that enhances the presentation. The staff are very passionate. Any time we asked a question, they took the time to provide great information that added much to our visit. This is a place to keep coming back to.Written June 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Ron HSaskatoon, Canada3 contributionsThis is an outstanding Water Park and has been a fantastic place to go since I first went 30 years ago as a teenager. The place is clean, staff was friendly, helpful and fun was had by everyone.
As a parent this is the first time my wife and I took our children to the waterpark. This was a destination stop for us as we booked in at the Fantasyland Hotel and spent the next day at the waterpark. I believe this time of year (October 2023) must be a slower time of year or maybe we just were lucky and found a good promotion. Hotel rooms were 40% off and also if you purchase passes for the waterpark or galaxyland from the hotel front desk they were also 40% off. What fantastic savings!
The only gripe I had was that my kids being on short side of what a 4 and 7 year old would typically be, were not able to take in all the slides at the waterpark. My 7 year old daughter who is just short at 46" tall and is an outstanding swimmer wasn't able to utilize all of the slides. I wish they had something posted outside the waterpark or if they do that it was more visible. You get charged entry based on your age but in reality you only get to use a portion of water slides based on your height, age has nothing to do with it. I also made the mistake of assuming that I'd be able to go down the slide together with them, more specifically my 4 year old son as he is still developing his swimming skills, but going down together is not an option.
Despite that we spent 6 hours there and it was fantastic. Both kids, my wife and I had a great experience. We will certainly go again in the future, but we will wait until both kids are at least 48" tall so they can take it all in.Written October 5, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Bob TLas Vegas, NV33 contributionsI’m just posting this to make others aware that this ride is cash only. I know for a fact that if you arrive at the Jasper Plaza stop 5 minutes before departure, you will not have time to get to an ATM. Looks like a cool ride, but I didn’t get to find out first hand.Written August 21, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. And to think that the politicians are planning to demolish this museum for a greener space is disgusting. There is nothing more important than a museum for our children.Written August 29, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TennisStar602New Jersey704 contributionsI rode the Ferris wheel which cost about six Canadian dollars (CA $6.00). This ride lasted about ten (10) minutes and I got great views. I thought that the staff could have been a bit more friendly. I walked around the entire amusement park. There were many other rides and games to enjoy.Written July 11, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
