Having appeared in many films .. the exterior despite being different to the surrounding modern glass skyscrapers, belies the stunning internal art deco interior. Now predominantly offices, the access was mainly ground and 1st floor via a beautiful lift

- 817sandrampAdelaide, Australia397 contributionsThoroughly enjoyed the gin tasting we did - all very drinkable, especially the Endeavour Old Tom. The decor was really interesting and the whole place had a nice vibe, due in no small part to the friendly and attentive staff - well worth a visit.Written January 4, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Helen SMelbourne, Australia213 contributionsWe visited this lovely old house museum after reading about it and, coincidentally, staying at an apartment hotel nearby. We were greeted by a friendly guide ( Jen) who offered us a detailed tour around the property. She was very knowledgable and provided us with a very clear picture of how this family lived. She shared her wealth of knowledge about other Canadian history too. There were lots of interesting photos to look at. We really enjoyed this tour, having an interest in how people used to live. If you like history, visit this welcoming museum in the west end of Vancouver.Written September 20, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Chris DNew Westminster, Canada3,366 contributionsA friend and I recently made our annual trip to this gem of a ball park - terrific as ever! We had great seats, but were surrounded by people talking in loud voices about everything but the game. Fortunately, even though it was a sellout, we were able to find a seat in the shade with a great view of the whole field. The game itself almost becomes secondary to the atmosphere when the cares of the day drift away.
On the negative side, while there is lots of parking, it always seems to be full, so take public transit, as we do. There is a Skytrain station a few blocks away, a north-south bus just to the east, and an east-west bus immediately to the south. And, the beer is getting expensive - over ten bucks a can! I believe the elasticity of demand is setting in, as people appear to be imbibing less and less.
Nevertheless, these side issues can't detract from the overall experience. Looking forward to next year.Written August 12, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - sandra tVancouver, Canada4 contributionsFind and Seek is the best Escape Room venue in Great Vancouver! The puzzles are challenging but doable. Some of the other places we have been over the years are too far-fetched. This is a fantastic activity to do with family and friends.Written December 31, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - brettwillcocks12 contributionsI invited my team to an evening at the Long Table Distillery in Vancouver as part of our team building events. It was an absolutely excellent evening - thanks very much to Long Table, your team and your sushi partner! Chad does a really great job on the cocktail side, both making them and showing us how to make some.
For the sushi part, Kelly of Pine Sushi did a very good job too with her chef Kai, and it was a lot of fun for the team to first listen and watch how to make sushi, and then move on to make our own. All in all it was a wonderful evening and highly appreciated by all in our team 😁👍👏👏.Written June 3, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - bev_7371946Vancouver, Canada52 contributionsWe had a wonderful two hour tour of Granville Island with the very knowledgeable Michael. There was certainly enough food to satisfy our group - small sample sizes but so many of them that I took the donut home to eat later. We all had favourites and many of us enjoyed everything. Thanks to Michael - and the various vendors - for a great morning.Written February 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - PookyCakeVictoria, Canada14,875 contributionsWhile in town for a short BC “staycation,” we decided to check out Forbidden Vancouver’s Holiday History & Hot Chocolate Tour. Murder, jealousy, scandal AND hot chocolate!? Who wouldn’t be down for that? Anyway, imagine our surprise when we arrive at the meeting point (outside Old Navy on Robson and Granville) and spy Glenn! Having just enjoyed the pleasure of his company two months earlier on the Really Gay History Tour, we knew we were in for a treat! And Glenn did not disappoint! Over the course of two hours, he enthralled us with historic tales of the mob and corruption at the Mayor’s office during the tenure of LD Taylor; the stunning architecture of Francis Rattenbury, who is perhaps most well-known for designing the BC Parliament buildings and nearby Empress, but who fell victim to murder from his adulterous wife and their young chauffeur; the intriguing history of the Hotel Vancouver and the celebrities who’ve stayed there, including Yvonne De Carlo and Howard Hughes; the irony of “moral turpitude”; and the delights of Vancouver’s beautiful art deco Marine Building. The history, stories and intrigue were, of course, peppered with beautiful holiday displays at the Hotel Vancouver and Hyatt Regency. I especially enjoyed the gingerbread displays @ the Hyatt and was surprised to learn they’d been hosting that event for over 30 years. Where the heck have I been?
Our tour concluded with an absolutely delicious hot chocolate courtesy of the award-winning Mink Chocolate Café. While there, we couldn’t help but purchase a few of their unique chocolates to take home and give away as gifts.
All in all, we enjoyed the tour. Glenn did an amazing job weaving the stories together into a compelling narrative that kept the group intrigued and engaged from start to finish. The stunning holiday displays and delightful hot chocolate at the end were the proverbial icing on the cake and, in an odd sort of way, nicely complemented the scandalous tales of Vancouver! Indeed, this isn’t exactly a Hallmark story . . . it’s a million times better!
A question: We have taken a number of tours with Forbidden Vancouver over the last couple years and thoroughly enjoyed them all. In fact, I think the only ones that remain outstanding, for us, are the “Forbidden Vancouver” tour and the “Monumental Scandals” tour; however, reviewing the Forbidden Vancouver webpage, the “Monumental Scandals” tour reads very similar to the Holiday History tour (minus the holiday displays and delicious hot chocolate), so wondering if it would be worthwhile to check out? Perhaps if we had another guide . . . though it would be funny if we signed up and had Glenn again ;)Written December 31, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
