What travellers are saying
- Jane C3 contributionsVictoria is a lovely, walkable city with restaurants and shopping near the Inner Harbor. We stayed at the Embassy Inn which was a one block walk from the harbor and offered a delicious breakfast. Highly recommended.Written September 12, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- rlmptlLloydminster, Canada1,232 contributionsthis is a beautiful and huge scenic park near the ocean. So much to see with the peacocks and flowers and waterfalls and fountains with lots of bathrooms and a playcentre. If walking is in a issue you can also drive through but reccommend at least entering the park and walking as much as you canWritten September 18, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Patric DSandbach, UK1,029 contributionsInteresting museum covering the prehistory and geology of BC, plus some more modern stuff too.
At the time of our visit there was a special exhibition on Stonehenge. I've visited the henge many times, but it was a great exhibition an I leaned quite a bit.
We probably didn't have enough time, and we were very tired after several long and hard days, but we did enjoy it, and I certainly recommend it.Written September 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Castle is being restored showing different uses over the years. Note that internet is supposed to be available but supplied password does not work so don't plan on it.Written September 19, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jacqueline RCork, Ireland648 contributionsBeautiful lifeless area in the harbour full of quirky floating houses, places to eat and souvenir shops.
It was smaller than I had envisioned but well worth a visit. We walked easily on to the centre of Victoria but there are water taxis going back and forth throughout the day.
Well worth a visit to soak up the atmosphere.Written October 3, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Patric DSandbach, UK1,029 contributionsIf you are English, this will be very familiar.
Modelled on the British Parliament both in design and in tradition, this is well worth taking the tour.
It is escorted (security) but worth waiting for the tour as you get to see areas that would be off-limits if you walked around by yourself.

Big thank you to the staff for allowing us entrance at the last minute! It was a great place to see; everyone in our group loved it, and we'd recommend it to all ages! The detail of the displays were amazing! Something for everyone of all ages! So glad we got to see this in our brief visit!Written September 2, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MainetrippinMaine142 contributionsWe went to the beautiful Empress Hotel for High Tea. It was a delightful window into the tradition! Our server knew everything about the teas on offer and was expert at showing us how to brew, how to taste, and how to enjoy the entire tea experience. The scones, delicate tea sandwiches of cucumber, coronation chicken salad, smoked salmon, and French ham & cheese, were perfect. As were the selection of deserts. All of this was accompanied by a live pianist who provided a subtle sound-track to the afternoon.
Our only disappointment was the severe disconnect between the ambiance indicated on the website and reality. When making reservations, it's clearly stated on the website that there is a dress code for High Tea, with prohibitions against hats (except for fascinators or fancy tea hats), athleisurewear, flip-flops, etc. It also says, patrons not meeting the dress code may be "politely declined" entry. I had packed a dress for the occasion, but due to a hiking accident that left my legs bruised and bandaged, I didn't want to wear it, and for four days I scoured stores on our itinerary en route to Victoria to find something appropriate. I had one pair of dressy shoes with me and couldn't find anything to match. I held my breath and put together an outfit from what I'd packed of dress slacks, a nice linen shirt, a scarf, and pretty earrings--desperately hoping we'd still be let in. (We even got a phone message reminding us of our reservation--and of the dress code.)
When we arrived, the couple ahead of us were shown to their table. He was in shorts and a t-shirt. She was in casual pants, with quilted vest, and a baseball cap. They did ask her to remove her cap, but in they went. We looked around and counted three men in hats, two folks in plaid flannel shirts, lots of jeans, and two other pairs of shorts. After all my angst of trying to meet the dress code, turns out, I could have worn a burlap sack.
I'm still glad we dressed up, but we were in the minority. So, is there a dress code or not? And if not, please don't threaten the unsuspecting with being turned away!Written September 16, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - KjayKlamath Falls, OR631 contributionsThis woodland/wildflower garden sequestered in a residential neighborhood (at 1964 Fairfield Road) offers an uncrowded, unique garden experience – blending natural & enhanced landscapes into an artistic tapestry. Native ferns and Garry Oaks dazzle, along with the Gargantuan rhododendrons snaking skyward, tranquil lily ponds reflecting darting dragonflies, lichen-splotched boulders warming slender lizards & wizened Bonsai trees, & eye-catching flowers brightening footpaths that serenely circle to secluded resting spots. Definitely a place to slow your pace, and immerse yourself in the tranquility of Nature.
Street-side parking is limited, but you can park on side streets, and easily walk to the garden entryway – where there may be several tables with native plants or tulip bulbs for sale. Admission is by donation, and a friendly volunteer will greet you, & provide a flyer for your self-guided walking tour.
We enjoyed two hours wandering around – photographing the flowers & wild birds (over 20 species noted there); and talking to other visitors, as well as chatting with the very knowledgeable, volunteer garden staff. When we visited in September, the Golden-crowned Kinglets & Anna’s Hummingbirds were most enchanting! At the Summerhouse, be sure to browse through the wonderful photo books that identify (by season) so many of the featured flowers & trees.
And don’t forget to look in the eloquent Gift Shop by the Teahouse. Our favorite were the handcrafted porcelain pins of cats & dogs – with “22-carat gold lustre”, created by artist Winnie Tam.
In 2000, The Land Conservancy of British Columbia acquired Abkhazi Garden “to protect this local treasure” – which is truly a memorable Victoria experience, off the beaten path, and not to be missed!Written September 23, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Definately worth a look see and walkWritten September 19, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- JenMWS19 contributionsSmall but fun collection of interesting insects. A staffer giving a tour was very passionate about the bugs and their welfare, and shared many fascinating facts. If you like nature, you’ll enjoy this. They also had a small but fun gift shop. (I scored some fun bug jewelry for Halloween!)Written September 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - RobertMJThompsonVictoria, Canada802 contributionsSince part of this street has been regulated to cater to walkers, it has become my favourite place to shop, linger or have a bite to eat. Being able to walk on the street itself makes me feel less crammed and gives me a safer perspective to view the trees, people and historical buildings. Tourists know it is a great part of their stop in this capital city. I feel proud to call it my downtown.Written September 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Amy BCasper, WY168 contributionsThis was a fun little adventure during our Olympic park visit. We did the package deal of hotels on each side and the ferry crossing to and from. Loading and unloading was very organized and efficient - just don't forget your passport! And make sure you are there the 90 minutes (minimum!) early when coming back into the US. Once you are there, you can't leave, so have snacks, drinks etc packed. Folks that are veterans of the process had chairs etc in their vehicles.Written June 23, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
