I'm so so happy and grateful I discovered Discover Churchill Tours!! Drew was absolutely fantastic!! In addition to being on their aurora call list, I did their great wildlife and sightseeing tour which Drew very kindly arranged so I could do that one early on in my stay so I'd have a visual reference point for when we were out later for night photography. And what a wonderful way to learn more about Churchill, so informative and fun with local insights. And I got to see my first cross fox, two arctic hares, and a group of ptarmigans.

Their aurora call list is the perfect way to both benefit from expert aurora monitoring (while I could sleep until the phone rang, though that hardly seems fair LOL) and bringing us to the best locations for viewing and photographing them. Cool added bonus to have such interesting foregrounds while the lights danced overhead. I returned to the call list (generous discount after the first viewing night) every night I was there. One gets greedy very fast with wanting to see more and more of Churchill's incredible full-sky auroral displays. It's just wild to see them arching all the way over head while dancing in other parts of the sky at the same time...terrific benefit of being right under the auroral oval. And apparently they can be even more spectacular than when I was there, so I'll just have to come back. ;)

It was also so wonderful to share these magical experiences with someone who so appreciates the skies too, and works so hard to ensure the best experience possible for each of us, using his expertise and experience to evaluate updated auroral data points combined with the art/instinct of it as well. And as an incredible photographer, Drew was also really helpful with photo tips, as well as sharing timelapses he took when we were out, and a few selfies of each of us. Thanks for everything Drew! I will be back for more!

I read about Frontiers North Adventures in a Travel + Leisure article which sparked my interest in their Subarctic Polar Bear tour. I’m so glad I looked into it, as I never knew this kind of polar bear-focused adventure existed. The tour I selected included lodging, meals, ground transportation, and a roundtrip chartered flight to Churchill. Travel to and from the departure point was not included.

I had an absolute blast! I came home exhausted from being in an extended state of excitement during my time in Churchill. I enjoyed the town tour and both days in the Tundra Buggy.

Frontiers North cannot guarantee what you’ll see on a tour with so many variables at play. We were fortunate to have about a dozen polar bear sightings (including three individual cubs), as well as a wolf, snowy owl, and a ptarmagin. We were also lucky to have beautiful cold weather while out in the Tundra Buggy.

Lodging in Churchill is basic, but my stay was comfortable and pretty great. My room included a kitchen, which was convenient.

Long story short, my time with Frontiers North was spectacular! So much so, that I’m considering another tour in the future, with a different focus.

We were lucky enough to be the only two tourists on the zodiac. This allowed me to move around freely and take photos. Emma, the amazing guide and driver, had us cruising with pods of belugas for over an hour. She also let us hear their noises below the surface with a special microphone and speaker. We went right out into Hudson Bay, into Nunavut waters, and the pods of belugas were huge. If we had more time, we would have done this tour a second and third time.

Caleb Ross created an amazing and thoughtful multiday adventure for us during Churchill’s aurora season - four nights of aurora photography, snowshoeing and hiking, dog sledding, and more. Host, guide, and an incredible connector … we would work with him and Nanuk Operations again.

We met with Dave Daley and his hard-working family of humans and Alaskan sled dogs to learn more about dog sledding, Metís culture, and life in Churchill. A ride with Dave’s son, Wyatt, and a team of dogs - each with a name and a specific purpose - capped the visit.

It was a smooth ride on the groomed trail. We got to hang out with some of the dogs afterward.

Over my 80 plus years I have been fortunate to have travelled many places. My last trip to Churchill with lazy Bear Lodge ranks right at the top of the list. The first day there we saw Belugas, Polar Bears and the Northern Lights. Jackpot!!!! I have mobility issues and use a walker. The young men who drove the tour buses, ushered us around activities, watched for our safety were teriffic. Not only were they very professional and competent they were kind and considerate. They helped me numerous times, on and off buses, Zodiacs, boats and Tundra vehicles. The best part ? they made it fun.
The staff at the lodge were equally thoughtful and helpful. It was a great, probably, final trip for me. Lois Perkins

We had the most incredible day ever! We were very fortunate to have perfect weather and got to see many polar bears doing everything from sleeping, wandering, and even sparing. We even got to see a mother polar bear with her cub so we were able to check off all of our “hope to see” boxes! The landscape itself is worth the trip so the animals we saw were truly a giant bonus. The tundra buggies themselves are comfortable, and between the number of windows and the viewing dock everyone was able to see everything and get great photos. Our driver, Jim, was informative and entertaining. You can tell that he truly loves his job, the bears and Churchill itself. The lunch served on the buggy was a delightful surprise. The sandwiches and soup were absolutely delicious and were incredibly filling. All in all, this day trip is one of the best trips we’ve ever done and we highly recommend this company.

Since Churchill is small and isolated (only accessible by plane or train), the only way to see the town surroundings is to take a helicopter. Hudson Bay Helicopters were right next to our Lazy Bear Lodge accommodation so we booked a sightseeing flight for our second day. Fantastic!

Our group of 6 took two helicopters and we flew south to a polar bear denning site. We landed and walked over to a den where a mother polar bear and babies had used the previous summer/winter. It was located on the sloped riparian area of the Hudson River. After the quick visit we re-boarded our helicopters and flew northeast to the Hudson Bay coast to see if we could find any polar bears sleeping on the shore. Sure enough we found about 8 or 9 in three different locations. We also saw mum and her two cubs out on the beach. Many are resting up and still living off their fat reserves. As it was only early September, they are not a problem as they are during the busy October/November tourist season. We flew
Around them at around 300-400 feet high and we got some great photos. We then flew back to Churchill past the famed Ithaca shipwreck and the Miss Piggy Curtiss C-46 plane crash site to home base. We would have never been able to see and experience all that we did any other way. Expensive but totally worth it. Must do.

At 1pm Gerald the owner of the amazing Bluesky Expeditions picked me up and we had an afternoon to remember. I had already met a few of his dogs and gotten cuddle time with the pups on the Northern lights night. Today I got to love up on them all. Such great personalities. Clearly he is an expert in his field. We went on a 7mile trail. First I sat in the sled. Then I drove with him standing behind me...and then he rode in the sled and I drove. OMG what a blast! Felt like I spent the afternoon with an old friend. After we fed the dogs and the Grey Jay's ate out of my hands, I said goodbye to most of my new furry friends and then 2 came back with us in the truck, Diana and Nikon. We went wildlife searching. Gerald was so sweet trying desparately to find me a moose to see because i had never seen one. It was such an amazing day. I highly recommend booking with Gerald as he had great stories, loads of knowledge, and just an all around great guy who makes sure that your experience is special.

Well we didn't see a single bear, but not one tour company saw one that day so it was nothing to do with Sub Arctic. Stanley did everything within his power to find one driving down trails, lanes, every single hidden spot he could think of but nothing! However that's the unpredictabality of nature and Stanley was a great guy to have show us around anyway; he was funny, entertaining, he told stories about his life in Churchill where he has lived all his life, he joked around and he tried so hard to find a bear! He knew his stuff, he recognized wolf tracks but, alas, the wolf didn't want to be found either! I would 100% go with this company again and would highly recommend you do too.

A+ from me for Leroy & Stanley!

The Family owned and run Lodge is the friendliest place we have ever stayed. Fantastic food (loved 6pm appertisers), comfortable rooms with ensuites. Every day an adventure with the Wildlife almost close enough to touch. The Guides were so informative, helpful and fun to be with. Thank you Churchill Wild for our amazing stay.

If you get this unique opportunity don’t pass on it. Alex gave us a birds eye view of Churchill, the tundra, boreal forest and the Hudson’s Bay. Lots of nature and wildlife. Nothing like the view of bears, belugas and caribou from above!

We took their full day polar bear tour on the last day of our visit to Churchill. There was just my wife and I in the truck. Unfortunately the weather was pitiful - windy and rainy and clearly the bears were all hunkered down - didn’t see any. But we did see an Arctic hare and got good pictures. Our driver/guide Chris did his best and took us down every side road I think to see everything in the area, so it was at least Informative.
