- SHEILAbluffton, United States5 contributionsWhat a great opportunity to see Churchill and the surrounding area with someone who has lived here a long time, and is knowledgeable about fauna, flora and weather! The dog sledding adventure was amazing. The love for the dogs is palpable and the passion for showing off the land is evident. Don't miss it!Written March 4, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Choo Choo RosenbloomWinnipeg, Canada88 contributionsI joined Discover Churchill for three nights of on call Aurora chasing and one afternoon of a Sightseeing and wildlife tour in March 2023. Alex, the owner, is an outstanding guide. On the aurora chasing nights, he would call when he was sure we would get to see the aurora and he would pick us up 20-30 minutes later. He always took us to beautiful locations, including the rocket range and he would give us photography tips and make sure we were getting great shots. He also took beautiful portrait shots so that everyone would have memories with themselves in it and he created a Timelapse of me shooting the aurora. I will always treasure that. He also gave us some of his own spectacular photos and Timelapses that we can share. On our way home from an aurora shoot, we noticed beautiful light pillars and he stopped to allow us to get shots. During the sightseeing tour, he took us to more places than mentioned and spent an extra hour with us. He is a very fun guy and has a great sense of humour as he recounts his experiences with wildlife and living in Churchill. He also has a very thorough knowledge of the area and took us to some spectacular sights like the ice hummocks, Miss Piggy, the sea mural sites, The Golf Balls etc. There’s a 25% discount for signing up for an aurora and a sightseeing bundle and it’s a great deal. I highly recommend Discover Churchill for all things Churchill. They take good care of their guests and are also entertaining and fun to join. They are also very reliable and affordable.Written March 29, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- bitsytravelerNewark, CA53 contributionsWe have been hosted by Great White Bear tours twice now - in 2013 and in 2022. The two experiences were quite different, but equally exciting.
[In 2013, in October, there were mostly male bears who came up close to the vehicles. In 2022, in November, there were numerous females with cubs just heading out onto the ice for the winter.]
They have the most experienced and informed drivers on their polar rovers - wonderfully conceived and comfortable vehicles.
We have ridden with Bill (aka Grouchy, because he is anything but), Val, and Michael.
They and the van drivers who take customers too and from the rovers are all like an extended family - and they quickly include their guests into that family.
We wouldn't mind going again in a few years - the tourism industry there helps to fund the conservation of these "great white bears".Written January 1, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The tour was amazing, our local guide Jeremy whose family has been there for several generations. The first stop is the house built by his great grand parents. We also visited the polar jail, Miss piggy, shipwreck Ithaca ( from a distance), Churchill northern study center and the rocket facility. Jeremy knows a lot about Churchill and polar bears in general, both he and his dad had close encounters with polar bears. To top that off, we saw three polar bears while we were driving around. We stopped the van, Jeremy let us out and took pictures. The bear was as close as 50 ft from us, but Jeremy had his rifle with him. In case of emergency he can fire warning shot to scare off the polar bear. Fortunately nothing happens, the bear was just moving away slowly. The tour exceeded all my expectations by far! If you have half day to spend, this tour is highly recommended!Written November 16, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Why would one get on an airplane and travel during a pandemic? A few good reasons actually, the reduced-capacity flight is direct from my city; and Frontiers North has maintained a good track record of covid-preparedness and enforcement. One measure was to cut client number in half, which allowed for all buggy passengers to have great seating.
The Tundra Buggy covers and backtracks over an area of trails for several hours, giving one a chance to experience the stark northern landscape and its climate. Our driver, Luke, was knowledgable, accommodating, personable, and made every effort to find bears for our viewing. There were other animal sightings but, unfortunately, ours was one of those days when the bears were also social-distancing. A number of passengers were disappointed until the final ten minutes of our tour when, sure enough, four bears appeared on the ice by the formidable Hudson's Bay – distant from us but still impressive and an experience not to forget.
The buggy is comfortable although the ride is frequently rough (part of its charm!). A light lunch of good sandwiches/wraps, sides and soft drink/water was served, as well as an in-flight meal going home.
Frontiers North is also affiliated with the Assiniboine Park Conservancy in Winnipeg, so a part of the cost is donated to their important programming, as well as support to research in Churchill.
Churchill tours are very expensive but, for this tourist, this unique place is worth every cent.
TIP: (because of Covid measures, hot beverages were not served so consider bringing your own thermos and snacks, if needed.)Written November 25, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Worth every penny we paid for the trip. "You" have to remember that you are going to a wilderness area. Anything and Everything can go wrong - max out the trip insurance and then leave the rest to Nature and Lazy Bear.
Everything went well for us - I honestly couldn't come up with a whine or complaint if I tried. This company is managed by professionals and the staff are all very fine service oriented people. We just relaxed and enjoyed ourselves. I am going to start saving for the Beluga adventure next.Written November 10, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - T.T.F.B.Toronto, Canada2 contributions- Our guide, Andy, is very kind and helpful. He is always there to answer questions and to help us for whatever we requested. We travelled with young children, he planned a personalized itinerary as what we wanted.
_ As we started our wildlife adventure in Churchill, Andy and his crew took us on 4x4 vehicles searching for polar bears. He and his crew are very experienced knowing where to spot the bears and where to get the perfect pictures. Andy is also a very experienced wildlife photographer.
_ We got to see quite a few bears and red foxes from far and from up close throughout the trip. We were also very lucky to spot a wolverine on our first day of the trip.
_ Andy and his crew are very knowledgeable about the wildlife and the town!!Written December 7, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. She was amazing - so knowledgeable and a wealth of information. We only saw 1 polar bear but were really close to it - about 30 feet - so we got very good pictures. When Rhonda sensed it was getting agitated she backed completely away from it. Also saw a muskrat and a red fox. She took us to all the local attractions (as listed on their website) and gave us lots of information about each. She has lived here for decades and regaled us with lots of stories of the locals. I would recommend this tour with RhondaWritten October 17, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
