We have been hosted by Great White Bear tours twice now - in 2013 and in 2022. The two experiences were quite different, but equally exciting.
[In 2013, in October, there were mostly male bears who came up close to the vehicles. In 2022, in November, there were numerous females with cubs just heading out onto the ice for the winter.]
They have the most experienced and informed drivers on their polar rovers - wonderfully conceived and comfortable vehicles.
We have ridden with Bill (aka Grouchy, because he is anything but), Val, and Michael.
They and the van drivers who take customers too and from the rovers are all like an extended family - and they quickly include their guests into that family.
We wouldn't mind going again in a few years - the tourism industry there helps to fund the conservation of these "great white bears".

At the end of October 2020, I did Frontiers North's one day fly-in-fly-out Polar Bear Adventure to Churchill, Manitoba. Why would one get on an airplane and travel during a pandemic? A few good reasons actually, the reduced-capacity flight is direct from my city; and Frontiers North has maintained a good track record of covid-preparedness and enforcement. One measure was to cut client number in half, which allowed for all buggy passengers to have great seating.
The Tundra Buggy covers and backtracks over an area of trails for several hours, giving one a chance to experience the stark northern landscape and its climate. Our driver, Luke, was knowledgable, accommodating, personable, and made every effort to find bears for our viewing. There were other animal sightings but, unfortunately, ours was one of those days when the bears were also social-distancing. A number of passengers were disappointed until the final ten minutes of our tour when, sure enough, four bears appeared on the ice by the formidable Hudson's Bay – distant from us but still impressive and an experience not to forget.
The buggy is comfortable although the ride is frequently rough (part of its charm!). A light lunch of good sandwiches/wraps, sides and soft drink/water was served, as well as an in-flight meal going home.
Frontiers North is also affiliated with the Assiniboine Park Conservancy in Winnipeg, so a part of the cost is donated to their important programming, as well as support to research in Churchill.
Churchill tours are very expensive but, for this tourist, this unique place is worth every cent.

TIP: (because of Covid measures, hot beverages were not served so consider bringing your own thermos and snacks, if needed.)

Saw Polar Bears in their natural habitat. Lazy Bear handled EVERYTHING, All good - no complaints - not one. Worth every penny we paid for the trip. "You" have to remember that you are going to a wilderness area. Anything and Everything can go wrong - max out the trip insurance and then leave the rest to Nature and Lazy Bear.
Everything went well for us - I honestly couldn't come up with a whine or complaint if I tried. This company is managed by professionals and the staff are all very fine service oriented people. We just relaxed and enjoyed ourselves. I am going to start saving for the Beluga adventure next.

    - Our guide, Andy, is very kind and helpful. He is always there to answer questions and to help us for whatever we requested. We travelled with young children, he planned a personalized itinerary as what we wanted.
_ As we started our wildlife adventure in Churchill, Andy and his crew took us on 4x4 vehicles searching for polar bears. He and his crew are very experienced knowing where to spot the bears and where to get the perfect pictures. Andy is also a very experienced wildlife photographer.
_ We got to see quite a few bears and red foxes from far and from up close throughout the trip. We were also very lucky to spot a wolverine on our first day of the trip.
_ Andy and his crew are very knowledgeable about the wildlife and the town!!

We took their half day Town and Area Tour with guide Rhonda. She was amazing - so knowledgeable and a wealth of information. We only saw 1 polar bear but were really close to it - about 30 feet - so we got very good pictures. When Rhonda sensed it was getting agitated she backed completely away from it. Also saw a muskrat and a red fox. She took us to all the local attractions (as listed on their website) and gave us lots of information about each. She has lived here for decades and regaled us with lots of stories of the locals. I would recommend this tour with Rhonda
