We hadn't been to the Forks in several years and things have certainly changed. Lots of interesting little unique shops and different food court choices. At one time there were some very high end restaurants in The Forks but there are fewer today. Still a good selection from fast food to Tapas.

The mall is fairly easy to navigate, stores are easy to find. Layout is simple as well and it wasn't too crowded on a Friday evening.

I visited Portage Place a couple of times over my 4 days in Winnipeg. On the positive side there is free. WiFi (in the food court), it’s nit overly busy and there is a really cool clock. Otherwise the shops are a bit hit and miss and there are a few vagrants. Not a massive shopping mall but it’s convenient being centre of the city.

When I lived in the nearby neighbourhood, Garden City Shopping Centre was thought to be one of the premiere malls in the city. Overt the years, a lot of changes have taken place, and most of them have not been positive. Stores have come and gone and now there are only a few anchor stores: Winners, Sears and Canadian Tire.

The theatres are now gone and the only real eatery is Smitty's with a so-so food court. There are some interesting shopping choices: a huge Dollarama, Claire's Accessories, Ardene, Rickis, Warehouse One, an eyeglass place, several hair salons, shoe store and showcase (seen it on TV). On my recent visit, however, a major jewellery store was going out of business, so it did look like another downturn is coming to the mall.

There are some pluses; Christmas at Garden City is a festive time and the occasional railroad model display intersperse with the hallway kiosks. It used "... ta' be a contender ..."

This mall has been an embarrassment since the 80.s. Owned by someone who keeps putting the rent up and chasing people out even though there is no warranting rent raised EVER. This is one of those places you have to beg tenants to stay, not increase rent. With the grocery store now gone because of this, there is simply no reason to go except for Blaine's music store, he will order anything for you. As for the rest, there is a substandard insurance company, and a few other overpriced stores, a drug store and a bank. There is a pizza place, if you can call it that and a Subway. Oma's bakeshop is good, but prices are out of this world. If they don't get a grocery store in there soon, it's going to die completely. Time for management to step up !

I have been to Kildonan Place since I was 3 or younger, and my first movie I saw was Barney the Movie at the KP Famous Players, so needless to say I love this mall.

While it saddens me that the old theatre is closing and a big multi-entertainment jumbo-tron theatre is being placed where the old Sears was, and that the last Arby's is no more, I still like this mall.

Recently I came here to see if Claires was reopened, and it was. I was able to get a replacement headband, as during covid, the one I previously had wore down and was being held together by tape.
I also was able to find a copy of The Great Gatsby from 2013 at Sunrise Records.

All in all, I like this mall.

This old rail terminal, gosh where do I begin?

My earliest memory of this place was when my dad took me to "meet" Thomas the Tank Engine, I was 3 years old and they had this giant Thomas for photos, like a kid would have a photo with the Easter Bunny, and then my dad and I went up to Kite and Kaboodle and he bought me some Thomas toys, some of which I still cherish to this day.... Anyways, I digress from that

The big old railway cross lights in the stairway are just awesome with the miniature Countess of Dufferin below it which is an adorable rail miniature.

I was last here back in October 2019, unfortunately, Spaghetti Factory was closed, which sucked, but it was still nice to look around the Terminal with my niece.
We had some hot chocolate at the Espresso Junction, and looked around the newly renovated Kite and Kaboodle, I still miss their old neon sign of a train with the light tubes travelling down the hall ceiling like a smoke trail.
Anyways, we also went to the antique store, and for some reason, whenever I go in there, after a while I feel uneasy, like something or someone doesn't want me to be there, like some kind of ghost, SO I try not to spend too long in there or get lost in the labyrinth of antiquities.
But despite my disdain for the Forks as of recent, if the Terminal had more parking/ free parking for 1 hour, I would visit more often.

Ordered two sets of sheets from Sleep Country, almost $300. Free shipping with FedEx, but terrible service delivery. Said i was to receive my goods TODAY, but upon tracking says it has just been picked up by Fedex in Quebec and now delivery not until Tuesday the 18th. Last time i will ever order online. FedEx is obviously lacking in service, so I could have easily gone down to a local outlet instead, and am done with online shopping. And done with all the covid excuses! Total BS. Not impressed.
