This Victorian Gothic church is magnificent. I only wished I could have gone inside to see the interior, but as everyone knows, churches are no longer open to the public except on Sundays and special events. (In Europe, most of the well-known cathedrals and churches are open for viewing). Interesting fact: The bell tower and steeple is 210 feet tall and topped by a 6-ft long wood gilt fish weathervane. The fish was an early symbol for Christianity (and not a symbol of fishing in Saint John, which is what most people would probably think).

The Cathedral is a towering structure in Portland. The Cathedral was build in the 1860s and serves as an example of Gothic Revival. You can develop an appreciation for the sheer size of the building during a walk on the grounds. Note the many windows, which I found to be interesting.

This was such an old historic building. The architecture is amazing and we enjoyed just strolling around the grounds and taking pictures. We were able to go inside as well and it is magnificent

St. Luke's was right next to my hotel (it's amazing how many sites and sights were near my hotel or could be seen through my room window) and I drove by it several times. It's a lovely light blue clapboard church but wasn't open -- these days churches are only open for church services or special events. I would have loved to see the interior and the staned glass.
