I took a bus to the Terry Fox Monument. Terry Fox is one of Canada's greatest inspirational heroes. He was born the same year as I was, but in 1977 was diagnosed with bone cancer. He lost a leg to that cancer and he wanted to raise money for cancer research. He decided to run across Canada in what he called "The Marathon of Hope". Mile Zero is in St. John's. The monument stands at the spot where he began his journey. Unfortunately he was unable to complete his cross-country race. His cancer returned and he died in 1980 at age 22.

This artistic gem was all I had hoped it would be. Proudly displayed in a small chapel, it is a true masterpiece in Carrara marble. The sister who showed us in was very welcoming. Viewings are available without appointment from M-F, between 9&12 and 1-4.

We found this very large statue and memorial a we walked around downtown, and especially on Water Street. It notes the several big wars where residents of the Province fought and died.

Sgt. Thomas Ricketts Memorial Park is a small, but lovely park. You can read the plaque about him. Ricketts is the youngest army recipient of the Victoria Cross for gallantry in the face of the enemy. During an attack in World War I, he drove the enemy into a farm where his platoon could capture them.

We were walking through the Battery just outside the old St Johns shopping area and came across this interesting sculpture installation.
It’s set on the hillside with a sculpture that looks like helicopter blades an information plaque on the wall and a mural.
Worth stopping and taking time to view this if you are passing
