We wanted a unique experience and to see things not readily available on a large, commercial tour. This overnight tour was beyond amazing. We had a very personable, friendly, and professional guide to take us off the beaten path. And, that’s what we got. We went off the beaten path to see such amazing sights. Having a local drive and know where to go was such a help and a relief. I did a ton of research before our trip, but never heard of some of the things we did. Plus, he knew where to go, and had an entire army of friends, photographers, and locals that gave him leads on icebergs. We would have never found an iceberg if it wasn’t for his network of contacts and his knowledge of the area. I can not say enough about Cory, our guide, or the amazing experience we had. Definitely a bucket list tour.

We chose Wildland Tours’ May Magic on the Avalon on May 16 -May 20, 2023. We travelled North America’s most easterly point to Cape Spear. Breathtaking view of natural habitat. After stopping at Bay Bulls historic site, our fantastic Tour leader, Darrell Penney, took us on O’Brien’s Boat Tour to North America’s largest Atlantic Puffin colony. Coutless varieties of seabirds for the eye to see. We were close up as they flew by! Cameras were clicking. Privileged to see many natural habitats and woodland animals as we travelled upward along the Southern Shore. Stopped by the UNESCO World Heritage site. Bonus to see the oldest, largest complex life-forms 580 to 560 million-year-old Ediacaran fossils that are not found anywhere else on earth! We stopped to see coastal colourful communities-took photos of fishing boats and their hand-made lobster and crab traps, and then continued and saw icebergs in May! If you get a chance, stop by the EDGE OF AVALON INN. What mouth-watering stuffed chiken breasts! Everything is done fresh and delicious. I recommend this Inn. The owners are so friendly and accommodating. We saw our continent’s 3rd largest and most accessible Northern Gannet colony. This is the breeding ground for the world’s most southerly breeding thick-billed murres as well as thousands of other seabirds. Wow. Evenings, we ventured wherever we wanted to go. We explored the shops, and many restaurants for evening meal experiences. I really enjoyed the fresh cod at the Salt House. If you mention you’re a Wildland Tour visitor at this fantastic gift shop: WILD THINGS, 120 Water Street, you receive a 20% discount on all your souvenir purchases. Everyone in St. John's is friendly and we enjoyed talking to them and learning their culture. Bonus: Wildland Tours treated us to a lovely farewell evening meal. And, besides being picked up at St. John's airport, we were given a pre-paid taxi voucher for our return back to the airport. Thank you to all the staff at Wildland Tours for the warm welcome and for this priceless experience. Marie Felix (Toronto, ON)

The wife and I have birded with Jared Clarke twice over two separate weeks, summer and winter. In short he is as good a bird guide as I have known and a great spokesman for Newfoundland and it's culture. He made sure we saw our target species and put us on several birds I never thought we would see. I look forward to birding again with Jared. And on a business note, we first reserved or January trip with Jared several years ago. Weather and Covid caused us to cancel twice. Jared made sure that we had a time slot to visit at the first opportunity available to us. You can trust Jared.
