    Just missed the tour group!
    We hiked up from the lot, down to the outcropping and back up to the signal house, looked inside and out, and just got away before a bus load of senior tourists arrived. This is a great spot loaded with history and amazing views, but the stairwells are tiny. If you see a big group going in, just hang back a few minutes so you have more time and space.

    Use your Discovery pass
    This site has a surprising number of attractions, all in one. The lighthouse, the tremendous view from the eastern-most point of Canada, the gun battlements, the tunnels. You'll learn about the English/ French conflicts over Newfoundland fish (Signal Hill messages reinforced) and see the living conditions for the lighthouse keeper and his family.
    The Parks Canada Discovery pass offers free admission to this site.

    A Gem
    My Sister in Law from here told me about this place. First thing we did when we got here.
    What a great way to display history and culture under 1 roof.
    Friendly staff. Very reasonably priced. Put it on "Must See" and view of the waterfront is spectacular

    Take the kids. Loads of hands on activities
    Their slogan is to 'go under the rock,' which you sort of do in this massive geology museum. It explains the geography of Signal Hill and all of St. John's, and has immersive displays of space and science.
    Adults without a bent towards these subjects may find it a bit too much reading, or out of their sphere of understanding. But science buffs and kids will love it.

    Top 3 experiences in St John
    What a great city. Loved the people. So kind and friendly. Top three experiences:
    1) Quidi Vidi - historical little neighborhood. Great food, art and walked around the lake.
    2) Signal hill. Great views.
    3) great eats and bars with music (especially The Ship for music and atmosphere )

    Quidi Vidi is a must see in St.John’s!
    A beautiful little town where you can enjoy casual food and live music at Quidi Vidi Tavern or go high end at Mallords Cottage. My teens loved it! Great views and a wonderful atmosphere!

    Fun area!
    This place was definitely always live! So much going on with a lot of fun people. We always enjoyed walking through here and drinking. It reminds me of Hess Village back in Hamilton, ON except way better!

    Brightly Painted Houses
    One of the best attractions in town. You will find many streets that are lined with wooden row houses that are painted in different bright colors. We once rented a tourist apartment in one of them. Be prepared to climb steep hills. Great opportunity for colorful photos.

    This is a busy place for a small village. Menu small mostly fried stuff. Craft beer can be purchased for take out. Nice views of the Harbor

    Signal Hill Cannon
    Great views and Great history of this place. It is on top of a large hill , so be ready to walk. They fired the cannon while we were there , that was a nice surprise.

    At one end of Water Street
    We saw this monument as we were wandering around town. It can be found at one end of the busy Water Street. And Water Street is where you will likely spend time as it is now largely pedestrian and there are a lot of activities along it.

    What a great evening!
    It was an amazing show. Gave us a flavor of NL being our first time in the province. The performers were very professional and talented with great singing voices. Loved the Newfie humor. The ambiance of the theater was intimate and lovely being located in an old church.
