Le Village Historique Acadien de la Nouvelle-Ecosse Lower West Pubnico
#1 of 256 Museums in Nova Scotia
We always enjoy outdoor ethnographic museums and this place does it well!
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this charming living museum and what made it so special were the lovely welcoming staff and the knowledge and friendliness of the interpreters of Acadien life from a bygone age.
Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site Louisbourg
#2 of 256 Museums in Nova Scotia
If you like history or museums or you just want to make history come alive for your kids, then a trip to Fortress Louisbourg should be added to your bucket list.
Have traveled afar and this venue is one of the best Living Museums in the world!

Cape Breton Miners' Museum Glace Bay
#3 of 256 Museums in Nova Scotia
After the tour we had lunch at the museums restaurant --food and service was great--cozy and beautifully decorated.
The museum provided vivid picture of the impact of the coal industry on life in Cape Breton, with great insights into labour politics, economics, and - most importantly - the life of the miners and their families.
Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 Halifax
#4 of 256 Museums in Nova Scotia
It's one of the few Canadian National museums outside of Ottawa and definitely worth the trip.
Probably one of the best museums of migration I have ever visited.
Les Trois Pignons Cheticamp
#5 of 256 Museums in Nova Scotia
This small museum is a Must-Do if you are interested in the amazing hooked rug masterpieces of Elizabeth LeFort.
The museum part was very interesting, giving some background history knowledge to the area, and I found myself fascinated by the hooked rugs on display.
Halifax Citadel National Historic Site of Canada Halifax
#6 of 256 Museums in Nova Scotia
Living on an island, we miss the opportunity to visit really great museums, so they are always at the top of our must-do lists when we travel.
Spent a full day there, taking a guided tour, walking the walls, visiting the museums and the First World War trench reconstruction, which was very informative.
Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site Baddeck
#7 of 256 Museums in Nova Scotia
One of the best museums I have toured.
This wonderful, fascinating museum explains it all in as much detail as you choose to take in, via story boards, exhibits, a video theatre, models small to huge, and interactive options.

Joggins Fossil Cliffs Centre Joggins
#8 of 256 Museums in Nova Scotia
Some were students and we understood that the Federal Government gives grants to enable museums and the like, to employ students during the summer.
We spent time in the museum after and that was very informative with easy to follow displays which included history of the fossil cliffs, the museum and the local area.
Port-Royal National Historic Site Annapolis Royal
#9 of 256 Museums in Nova Scotia
Incredible living museum and gorgeous grounds with natural inner harbor.
Great walk even without a tour or museum access
Maritime Museum of the Atlantic Halifax
#10 of 256 Museums in Nova Scotia
My husband and I love the sea, so any chance we get to visit museums with maritime items, we take advantage of the opportunity!
If you are a history buff you must visit this museum it is around 15.00 per person and only 100.00 a year for a membership for a family of 4 to get into this museum as well as 28 other museums in the province for...

#11 of 256 Museums in Nova Scotia
A very informative museum with great history of the early settlers in Nova Scotia.
Excellent museum, heritage buildings and a recreated ship that you can go on.

Art Gallery of Nova Scotia Halifax
#13 of 256 Museums in Nova Scotia
It's also really close to other museums such as the Maritime Museum and the Discovery Centre.
The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia is a great gem of an art museum focusing on the artists of Nova Scotia and the Maritimes.
Discovery Centre Halifax
#14 of 256 Museums in Nova Scotia
You can do everything from watching shows by scientists to getting inside a giant bubble(which is the best part of the museum btw!)
Its a nice science museum for kids, but the Innovation Lab was excellent.
Sherbrooke Village Sherbrooke
#15 of 256 Museums in Nova Scotia
I have been to many different living history museums and traditional craft demonstrations but the blacksmith here (whose name was Tony Huntley) gave the best demonstration I have ever seen.
I love museums but I have been known to suffer from museum fatigue.
Laurie Swim Gallery Lunenburg
#16 of 256 Museums in Nova Scotia
Ms. Swim's work was on display at the Maritime museum in Halifax so we were interested in her small gallery.
Shearwater Aviation Museum Dartmouth
#17 of 256 Museums in Nova Scotia
We understand that, during the summer, there are Federal grants available to museums to enable them to employ students - there were several on the day of our visit and their politeness and helpfulness was outstand...
The museum located by the Shearwater Airforce Base contains a variety of planes and helicopters from World War II to the 1960s brought to life by Jim, an ex-serviceman, and now excellent volunteer guide.
St. Paul Island Museum Dingwall
#18 of 256 Museums in Nova Scotia
Love these local museums- apparently quite a few lighthouse keepers have ended up in Dingwall and worked to get this lighthouse transferred here.
The St. Paul Island Museum is a must see for those interested in the Island and of coarse Light Houses as it holds many stories of explorers, ships, and fisherman.
Nova Scotia Museum of Industry Stellarton
#19 of 256 Museums in Nova Scotia
One of the most educational museums covering all interests.
The displays alone in the museum are interesting enough, but if you get the chance to hear Interpreter Paul speak about the mining history of the area and give demonstrations of the belt driven equiptment, jump on...
Black Loyalist Heritage Centre Shelburne
#20 of 256 Museums in Nova Scotia
It has to be one of the most beautiful museums I've ever been in!
It is a modern, thoughtful, balanced museum about the experience of freed slaves brought to Nova Scotia after the American Revolution.
Dory Shop Museum Shelburne
#21 of 256 Museums in Nova Scotia
You can visit three waterfront museums for ten dollars.
We stopped at the Dory Shop Museum as part of a two day tour of southwest Nova Scotia and learned all about the history of the shop and how a dory - a Shelburne Dory - is made.
Nova Scotia Museum of Natural History Halifax
#22 of 256 Museums in Nova Scotia
The museum may be on the small size for people used to US Natural History museums, but it has some very good exhibits and is great for a family that wants a short visit before the kids are overwhelmed.
An excellent museum with well organized and curated exhibits - well worth visiting to get an understanding of the archeology, geology and natural history of the province.
Ross Farm Museum New Ross
#23 of 256 Museums in Nova Scotia

Anne Murray Centre Springhill
#25 of 256 Museums in Nova Scotia
Many of these 'hometown' museums are disappointing as they often consist of a lot of memorabilia just stuck together, a bit tacky.
The museum was spotless and the many awards and accomplishments made you proud to have Anne as a fellow Canadian.
Halifax & Southwestern Railway Museum Lunenburg
#26 of 256 Museums in Nova Scotia
So many artifacts for you to see, and even an amazing miniature/to scale railway, that winds its way through the entire museum, depicting the towns and communities along the South Shore.
My family and I recently visited the museum and I must say the passion the owner has for all things railway makes the visit that much more enjoyable.
Memory Lane Heritage Village Halifax
#27 of 256 Museums in Nova Scotia
The museum buildings and grounds were alive with actors and had many interesting tools as well as toys that were touchable.
... of the place was that the kids could touch and use the things there; this made it much more real for them and they learned much more than they would have just seeing these items in a standard museum setting.
Old Barn Gallery Antigonish
#28 of 256 Museums in Nova Scotia
Fundy Geological Museum Parrsboro
#29 of 256 Museums in Nova Scotia
The Fundy Geological Museum is small but collection includes a history of the Earth, both in displays or rocks and fossils, and in a terrific video simulation.
The museum presents many interesting field trips during the summer, where you can go with a geologist to see the earth's history in the ancient rocks along the north shore of the Bay of Fundy.
