Walking off the cruise ship we found it easy to get around with the map and info provided by the tourist box located at the pier. The shops inside the pavilion provide an opportunity to shop and get more tips from the merchants. There is also musical entertainment at times. We found this a good place to visit at the end of our day for some A/C and last minute shopping.
Our walking tour started just 10 minutes from the pier and took us about 3-4 hours covering the historical neighborhood and business district from DeBarrest St to Wentworth Park. Included in our walk were several historical homes, churches, museums, markets, craft fair ( on cruise days) businesses and a bite to eat.
The walk included shaded streets, some benches to rest and plenty of neighbors willing to stop and talk with us.
If time is limited stick to Charllotte St between Amelia and Townsend Sts.
A bathroom was available at the McConnell Library - thanks to the staff.
