It was Boxing Day, so the shops were closed. On a regular day, it (the building and the area) would be a nice place to walk around. Our girls are both taking violin lessons, so this was a MUST-SEE before heading to the N Sydney ferry terminal. There's violin music coming from it.

Loved hearing the history of the community as it tied into the history of the house. Very knowledgeable docent and well-kept museum. The kitchen and historical maritime venues were great at helping one get a picture of life in the 1700-1800's in Sydney.

The gallery features quite a good variety of crafts and arts. Found some of the works inspirational for my own interest in crafting.

My first visit to this place was just this summer and I'm sad that I didn't discover it sooner!
It was an easy peaceful walk and I will definitely be back again.

Stopped by and had a flight. We were really impressed by the different beers. So much so that I have searched for, and purchased Breton beers anytime we are back in Nova Scotia. Particularly loved the Sons of Hector.

Walking off the cruise ship we found it easy to get around with the map and info provided by the tourist box located at the pier. The shops inside the pavilion provide an opportunity to shop and get more tips from the merchants. There is also musical entertainment at times. We found this a good place to visit at the end of our day for some A/C and last minute shopping.
Our walking tour started just 10 minutes from the pier and took us about 3-4 hours covering the historical neighborhood and business district from DeBarrest St to Wentworth Park. Included in our walk were several historical homes, churches, museums, markets, craft fair ( on cruise days) businesses and a bite to eat.
The walk included shaded streets, some benches to rest and plenty of neighbors willing to stop and talk with us.
If time is limited stick to Charllotte St between Amelia and Townsend Sts.
A bathroom was available at the McConnell Library - thanks to the staff.

My family and I took a nature walk at the Bailoe Ard Nature trail today. The scenery was pleasant with running water, wildlife, and greenery. My only complaint is that the wildlife was overgrown in some sections of the trail. We had to push away branches in some areas. Perhaps this is due to the down season, however something to note depending on the age of your children and any special considerations for them. We enjoyed our walk, and will be back!

Found this sculpture very moving. It reminded me of their heroic efforts and sacrifices needed to overcome difficult odds.

Coxheath is a very beautiful place to go for a trek. Everyone can go there because it is a short trek and people can climb it easly. There are ropes, made my trek easier. The view from the top was really awesome and i was feeling so pleasent. People also came for skiing and other adventures. My suggestion is to go in the morning or in the evening. The sunset was really beautiful from the top. And evening lights are good for photographers to take scenic pictures. Family and friends can enjoy the trip to the fullest.

The church is nice, but hardly remarkable. However, ladies who serve as docents can share the background history and that is worth listening to. They'll tell you about this history of the pipe organ and the pews which are reserved for royalty. Without question, they are proud of their church and community and they want to winsomely share that story with you. I hope you get a chance to hear them.

Stopped in to ask some questions and get a glimpse of the local newspapers. The staff were genuinely helpful and took the time to get us acquainted with the material we requested.

It is always great to visit and learn about a home built in the 1700's. The staff (apparently volunteers) did a great job of sharing the history of the home and the family of the Cossit family. We learned in the kitchen of a drink the earlier settlers used to get vitamin C. They boiled pine and spruce needles to which they added things such as syrup and rum - we were provided a taste. The gentleman in the kitchen (in period clothing) was great!
You have several steps going in plus steps to the second floor, plus the atic. For 2$ well worth the visit. We visited on a rainy day when several cruise ships were in port. We arrived just a a tour group was leaving so the place was packed but soon cleared out to a reasonable number.

Arrived too early for a visit inside, but did tour the grounds and found the architecture and cemetery in the back to be worth the time.

Whitney Pier was where many migrants first arrived in Canada. It also had a steel mill that used iron ore and coal from Newfoundland. This has now closed.

Volunteers man this small museum, which is free to enter. It has a collection of old bicycles, cookers, phonographs and other household items, donated by local residents. The guides are well-informed about local history.
pier. You can reach the museum by a local bus for a few dollars The stop is a few hundred yards from the cruise terminal

A lovely historic gun battery, with some good static displays. At the time of this writing it looks unattended do to Covid and the washrooms and such are closed. The views are stellar and you can get some amazing photos of the harbour and ocean. Great for sunsets.
