We found out about this place from the friendly bank security guard across the street. Our self guided visit was accompanied by a provided, informative map/pamphlet. The rooms are filled with period furniture and historical art. The library was most beautiful. One of the friendly security guards mentioned to look carefully at the floor as there are fossils embedded in the stone. The visit was free of charge and the building itself is quite impressive. Definitely worth an hour of your time.

Government House is a delightful structure located in downtown Halifax. Home to Nova Scotia’s Lieutenant Governor it serves as both residence and working office where foreign dignitaries such as members of The Royal Family are received. The tour is not long and covers only the ground floor. The guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the home.

The facility is primarily used by archivists and people doing genealogical research.
I, however, enjoy visiting the rotating art displays in the Chase Exhibition Gallery.

The Chase Gallery, located on the lobby level offers short-term exhibition space for local and provincially-based artists and art organizations. Feature exhibits change monthly. Free Admission.
