Pier 21 operated as an immigration station from 1928 through 1971 and was Canada's equivalent of Ellis Island. So it was appropriate for the Canadian Museum of Immigration to be based there. It is an excellent museum and I recommend it highly.

There were posters promoting immigration to Canada. There was a special exhibit devoted to the Enslavement of Black People in Canada. An example of someone who rebelled against slavery was Marie-Josephe Angelique. She set fire to Montreal in 1734 which destroyed half the city.

Other exhibits show a tourist class (third class) cabin on an immigrant ship in the 1950s. A fun exhibit was the test to become a Canadian citizen. Even though I am not Canadian, I knew enough about the country to pass the test. I received a sticker which translated as "I succeeded".
