These beautiful historic gardens have been gracing the heart of Halifax for over 100 years. We visited in the Fall when the beautiful foliage was on display. Apparently there are guided tours available, but, not knowing that, we wandered about on our own. There is a Victorian gazebo, statues, benches, a duck pond, and gorgeous plantings which change with the season. Definitely worth a visit!

High atop a hill in the centre of the city is the Halifax Citadel. It is actually the fourth fort the British built on this site. I was welcomed by a soldier and a guard. Inside the Citadel is the excellent Army Museum, located in the former barracks..

Some of the people shown in the Army Museum are well known. During World War I, the Jewish Legion was formed by Britain. They trained at Camp Edward in Nova Scotia. One of those soldiers was Private David Green, who later became David Ben-Gurion, the first Prime Minister of Israel. Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae was a physician during World War I. He wrote the poem "In Flanders Fields", which is recited across Canada on Remembrance Day (November 11).

There was an exhibit about the fortress and the city titled "Fortress Halifax: A City Shaped by Conflict". One of the exhibits was a panoramic map of Halifax in 1879 with the Citadel in the middle. To mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, they had a special exhibit titled "Storm the Beach: D-Day Experience".

You can easily spend several hours here seeing all of the exhibits.

We still enjoyed another visit to Halifax, and the waterfront boardwalk. With the heavy fog both days we were there, the sounds of the foghorns and foggy views made for quintessential Halifax this time of year. Regardless of the weather, Nova Scotia is beautiful, and Halifax is still an enjoyable city to visit.

We loved everything in this museum. The ship models and the documents are amazing. We got a tour about the history of Halifax, the guide was brilliant, very energetic. Thank you for such a good experience.

I have done this tour multiple times with work, family and friends. I always learn something new and there is always a new face and new energy each time. It is by far one of the best times in Halifax I’ve experienced and I was born and raised here. Good company, amazing, friendly, personable, interactive and knowledgeable people all around… let’s not forget about the best in house brewed BEER 🍺 🍺

It’s definitely a vibe and an experience you do not want to miss. Go with your family, friends or loved one and even if you go solo, you won’t feel alone and you’ll end up making some new friends at the end of it. Do yourself a favour and don’t miss out on this tour. Book yours soon! You won’t regret it! 🍺

Pier 21 operated as an immigration station from 1928 through 1971 and was Canada's equivalent of Ellis Island. So it was appropriate for the Canadian Museum of Immigration to be based there. It is an excellent museum and I recommend it highly.

There were posters promoting immigration to Canada. There was a special exhibit devoted to the Enslavement of Black People in Canada. An example of someone who rebelled against slavery was Marie-Josephe Angelique. She set fire to Montreal in 1734 which destroyed half the city.

Other exhibits show a tourist class (third class) cabin on an immigrant ship in the 1950s. A fun exhibit was the test to become a Canadian citizen. Even though I am not Canadian, I knew enough about the country to pass the test. I received a sticker which translated as "I succeeded".

Traveled from Florida to see where the victims of the Titanic were laid to rest. I have been to different exhibits to view artifacts, but this was different knowing those that perished were right there.

It is amazing that the Halifax harbour ferry still operated whilst we visited both days in heavy fog. Always enjoy the sound of the foghorns, and appreciate the skills and dedication of those that work in every situation and condition.

A very nice place for a quiet walk. There are many places to sit. Very comfortable paths for jogging or walking the dog. Cyclists are permitted to ride on designated trails during Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. My wife and I came here when it was drizzling and a bit "stormy" near the shore, but it was even cool. Very nice and pleasant sea air. There are several small parking lots near entrances to the park.
Several interesting historical places and monuments.
Overall, a great place, I recommend visiting if you really have at least an extra 3 hours.

We were in town for this tattoo that was only 3 days long, getting ready to celebrate Canada today. We ended up getting tickets for the first night. This was an amazing experience.

It's a lot of marching military bands and a lot of bagpipes, and they also had the Highland dancers girls from Scotland that were really good. If You do not like loud marching band music or bagpipes, this is not for you.

They had some visiting bands from South Korea, Switzerland, the United States, Germany, and England, and the bands participated in different things. But it was all about music.

This was a really good experience and not something I have ever experienced before in the United States. So I was really happy to go.

This was a really cool tour, and there were many men along the boat explaining the ships ins and outs. Who knew a cat could rank higher than a person?? A great tour with great info, thank you to those who have kept and continue to keep her restored. It was wonderful to see both volunteers and active military keeping her story alive.

One word, WOW. My nephew James has worked here for a while. I visit twice a year and this time got tickets to The Full Monty to see theater outside of Montréal which is where I live and see theater. Halifax here I come again! This place has everyone else beat for atmosphere and one of a kind shows. The love of acting shows throughout the entire show which at times brought me to tears even though it was a musical with humor. If you are looking for one thing to do in Halifax go to Neptune because it will embrace you like a warm hug. I’m already booking my next plane ticket tor ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ next March.

Set on the side of the hill which the citadel tops, the Old Town clock was built by the British to help the garrison keep time! It had had much restoration work done on it over the past 200+ years it has been running

The sculpture titled "The Emigrant", 2013, by Armando Barbon is located near the Cruise ship terminal and the Canadian Museum of Immigration. It is a very appropriate located. The statue reminds us how important immigration was to Canada.
