- klswaving16 contributionsThis is a memorial garden for if you've lost your baby through miscarriage, still-birth, or abortion, but it's so beautiful, it's worth walking through even if you haven't lost a baby. It has some some benches to rest on, as well as lots of shade, so it's a great place to stop if you've been touring downtown,or checking out the Catholic Church, which is on the same property.Written August 24, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JasChezGuelph, Canada13 contributionsWent on the Brooklyn tour with Jay starting at the boathouse. The group that showed was about eight. It is styled like a European walking tour! Jay provides tidbits about the local area pointing things I've never known about the neighborhoods. His storytelling and theatrical background are quite evident when he reveals the history and daily life of the time.
The tour was an easy stroll and would be accessible to everyone, comfortable walking shoes and maybe some bug spray.
Will be attending another tour very soon! Can't wait for another signature Jaywalking tour with Jay!Written June 28, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This is the remains of the mill built in 1866 by James Goldie on the shores of the Speed River. It is located on the site of two previous mills which were both destroyed by fire the earliest being a sawmill built in 1827.
Goldie Mills was one the leading flour manufacturers in Canada and was a major employer in Guelph. It continued in operation up to 1929 at which time flooding took out the dam. In 1953 fire destroyed the buildings. The Grand River Authority now maintains the site and a lovely park has been built around it.Written April 10, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
