- MidwestKathMDetroit, MI1,129 contributionsOn a museum roadtrip to see Group of Seven paintings, we stopped at this fine Art Gallery of Hamilton to see their Directors Collect: 110 Years exhibition. It is an interesting look at the AGH collection from the perspective of each of their six museum directors since 1947. The first director T.R. MacDonald held his position for more than 25 years; he was also an artist in his own right (as was his wife Rae Hendershot). Among the many works he acquired for AGH were Group of Seven paintings. In this current Directors Collect exhibition, all works are displayed in salon style. Quite striking! And interesting to read about each director's position on collecting for the museum and displaying for the public.Written July 8, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AnLil937 contributionsMcMaster’s Art Museum is worth visiting for one of their special exhibits. It’s easy to access the university campus and surrounding area. At the entrance you’ll find two locations for .ca bicycle rentals (sobihamilton): one at the parking lot/bus loop behind the little art museum, and another outside of campus at Sterling-Whitton. Bikes can just as easily be picked up or returned in front of the McMaster University Medical Centre as well, not far from Williams Cafe on Main Street W. If it’s a nice day and you want to explore the neighbourhood, there’s a nice park at Marion Ave-Dromore Crescent, which is also the entrance to both Cootes Paradise Sanctuary trail head, and also the Aviary /greenhouse of the Royal Botanical Garden. A pay parking lot is there, within walking distance of the university, or there are underground pay carlots by the university hospital. Visiting in summer is just as lovely as the early fall, either on or off the busy campus. The flora is beautiful even in Oct. when the leaves turn colour(s).Written June 11, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - mtscribeColorado Springs, CO1,121 contributionsJosh's work is breath-taking. Gallery is adjoining his family's home, so parking is best on Gray Road, south of King Street E. It is well worth a few minutes or an hour. His current work is right in front of you. A few finished pieces are on the wall, and prints are available for sale. Three volumes of his collection are available for purchase: Josh Tiessen: A Decade of Inspiration; Streams in the Wasteland; and Vanitas + Viriditas. Visit Tuesday through Saturday, 1 to 5 pm, by appointment.Written November 28, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
