The story of the events of August 6, 1919 have been told many times. It was a terrifying night for the two men trapped some 766 meters from the precipice of the Falls. Moored on a rocky outcrop for a century, the 2019 remnants of tropical storm Olga led to record water flows in the Niagara River, causing the scow to move some 50 meters toward the Falls and turn on its side. The release of the ice boom in April, 2022 caused further breaking up of this valiant scow. Having beaten back the waters above the Falls for a century, what is left may soon have a watery grave at the base of the Falls. When that sad day happens, the scow will be gone but not forgotten.
