- laurelrsNiagara-on-the-Lake, Canada29 contributionsLots of great information. Learned about muskets and even got to lift one - way heavier than I had imagined!
Had an outstanding lecture/discussion in the officers' mess.

Looking through the windows you can see a huge range of what used to be the latest medical equipment. It was originally operated as the the apothecary but closed in 1964 and was subsequently opened as a museum.Written May 20, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - PhotoDudeIIIToronto, Canada136 contributionsTucked away in the corner of the village of Queenston is a small but very interesting museum. The purpose of the museum is two-fold: a history of William Lyon Mackenzie, who published his anti-establishment newspaper here for a short time before moving to Toronto (and getting into lots of trouble), and the history of printing press. Both are dealt with well. The history of the printing press, with vintage machines, is demonstrated up to the modern age. The tour guide gives a detailed account of how they worked, and the changes in technology that allowed going from 200 copies to 200,000 copies or more. It gives you an appreciation on how hard it was to produce something we take for granted. If you're into historical museums, this won't disappoint.Written August 5, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Experience6134019 contributionsWhat a great experience buying a Trish Romance print from Niagara Image Gallery. It was from some of her early work and the frame they picked out really enhanced the picture. While I was their I noticed a painting that her daughter Tanya did and what a difference from her mom work but I loved the style . I bought one of Tanya print and they will have it framed n ready for me next week i hope. Once I was done at Niagara Image Gallery I had to make a trip up to Avondale to get a banana split. All in all I think I had a great day.Written August 5, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Maryann LFair Oaks, CA1,328 contributionsThe museum is in a former country home. There are galleries on three levels in addition to a library and small gift shop. There is a $5.00 admission with discounts for students and seniors. This day there was an interesting wire art exhibit inspired by bees. The library contains a collection of bronze sculptures. A small exhibit done by the Group of Seven depicting urban and rural scenes was most pleasing.Written October 23, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Leisa3 contributionsLovely shop selling quality, unique gifts for the home. I love that it’s a working studio and the owner/artisans are on site to explain their process. Beautiful handcrafted glasswork and gorgeous linen soft goods for the home. I even got a peak at their tiny garden out back where they were brewing up some natural dyes. A real gem!
So excited to see that the shop has re-opened since Covid. The owner artist was busy during lockdown and has expanded into creating lovely hand built ceramic pieces.Written August 10, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Friendly staff. We enjoyed the two art shows in their galleries, and even made a purchase while here. there is a small lighthouse adjacent to their grounds now used as a water sampling lab. My Dad had saved a lot of pictures with the names of the soldiers on the back of the picture. I had books, memorial service for their dead soldiers of this regiment and his medals. They told me a lot about what my Dad was and did during the war, which I did not know, as my Dad would not talk about the war. I have more pictures and things of my Dad that they would love to have so I will be going back and donating all this to them. If anyone has this kind of memorial from a war, I would suggest you find if they have a museum and this can be done through Butler's Barracks for you.
I feel so good now that my Dad's treasures will never see a garbage can and will be there for generations to see and learn from.Written July 22, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Frank and Eva Mlcak have a beautiful studio in Niagara-on-the-Lake. The pieces Eva had for sale were beautiful and obviously made with love.
