If you are visiting NotL make sure you spend some time visiting Fort George. This is a great faithful reconstruction of the original site complete with some original artefacts. There are heaps of staff on site, in period costume, who are very knowledgeable and eager to answer your questions. Having no knowledge of the history of the area, I walked away with a good understanding of the history around the 1812 war. Make sure you time your visit for the musket demonstration - this is well worth seeing. The person demonstrating one of the weapons had some difficulty with the firing mechanism highlighting the issues with this type of weapon - the commentary was hilarious and had us all laughing.

Over looks Niagara River.- good view of boats. Shady in morning and sunny in afternoon. Good for recreational bicycling - relatively flat.

This park has become quite pricey. Parking is now $20 flat rate for 4 or more hours! Washrooms are far away and park is not handicap accessible.
Rental of a shared area in the pavilion with a small charcoal bbq is pricey too.
But- our family (52 of us came this year) had a great time and the kids love the splash pool.

Viewing point to see Toronto (in theory) and Fort Niagara in the United States. Pretty enough views but nothing really of note, you can walk along the lake side which is quite peasant in the right weather.

The park is perfect for picnics. Grab a sandwich and a drink and find a shady table for the family, or just you and your companion. Greenery and flowers abound.

Ryerson Park is a beautiful scenic stop while walking alongside the shores of Lake Ontario. We got to watch sailboats pass by. You feel the wind coming off the lake, so dress warmly! It's a lovely time to slow down and enjoy the view.

If you like lilacs, this is the place to be. They offer a variety of colors and types, and some even have the tags on them so you can reference what type of lilac it is. Although they are numbered, I could not find a reference chart online. It was a nice little stop on our way up to Niagara on the lake, and there are bathrooms located over by the flower clock that are open to the public.

It's quite easy to miss this "off the beaten path" attraction when in the Niagara-on-the-Lake area. Don't make that mistake, because this place is seriously a gem.

While the park is small in size, it's still beautiful, clean and very well maintained. I love the small walkway along the lake that this park has. The park also offers great views of the fort right across, and depending on weather conditions, you may also be able to get a glimpse of Downtown Toronto from afar. Cool!

I also like how this park feels more local rather than a touristy kind of place.

All in all, I will be back here.

Great new trail recently restored from an old rail line. Travels south from the Pillar and Post hotel to East-West Line, just under 2k. It is well maintained and travels through woods and hooks up to other trails nearby on Parks Canada properties.

Enjoying the beach and bodies of water

There was another lake inside the forests. It was beautiful as well.

One person went to swim. He liked it.

    We also liked hiking.

    This is a must see!

The Niagara River Recreation Trail is lengthy. It runs from Fort Erie to Fort George in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Although many sections of it are suitable more for bicyclists, there are sections that are just as appropriate for hikers, walkers, and trekkers.

During a visit to Canadian friends, I trekked part of the Niagara River Recreation Trail independently on a day when I had free time away from my group. I visited the sections of the trail in Queenston Heights Park and Queenston Heights National Historic Site.

I found this to be a very scenic and very easy trail as it was pretty flat and paved at the sections I trekked.

This part of the trail is designed for use by everyone visiting Brock’s Monument the Laura Secord Monument, and the surrounding points of interest.

I rate the Niagara River Recreation Trail at 5.0 and recommend a visit on bicycle or on foot.

There is room for one or two cars at the end of Butler St but I recommend going by bike since a bike trail goes through the park. There is a nice foot bridge that crosses the babbling 2 Mile Creek. The feature is the Butler family plot with plaques explaining the family's involvement with the American Revolution and the War of 1812. It is a good example of the terrain of NOTL during the War of 1812.
