We had a chance to see some of the areas outside of Quebec City which were beautiful - particularly Ile D’Orleans. The Basilica of Ste Anne de Beaupre was stunning. Montmorency Falls was impressive and offered a variety of activities.
Our criticism comes about a stop at a copper art gallery. We were there at least 40 minutes. We would have much preferred more time at the Basilica where our visit felt rushed. At the Falls, we arrived about 45 minutes before closing which made some people reluctant to take advantage of the many activities available there.

She drove us back to our hotel through the countryside rather than the highway so we could see Canadian culture. She started by telling us about the area’s history --including the British and French occupations. We viewed significant and historical buildings, the tourist shopping areas, the only cigar store (by request) and more. Odette is very knowledgeable and shares her insights.

Our guide was in character the whole time, incredibly knowledgable, and quite entertaining. He was very open to questions and seemed to really enjoy whenever a tour participant showed interest or curiosity in any detail of old Québec. Attending this tour afforded nuance and backstory to the old town which we would not have otherwise gained. We also got to walk right into a couple neat locations we would have otherwise missed. And, our guide actually lives in old Québec and shared his personal perspective on what it's like to live in a 400-year-old town that has seen much less modernization over the centuries than the rest of the city. As a private tour just for the 2 of us, we were looking for a highly personalised experience and Renald certainly did that! He tailored the tour and engaged with us on everything we asked. Fascinating history of Quebec made more so because it was clear that Tommy has actively worked in preservation of the artifacts of the city. He also knows the locals and was obviously well respected (a local referred a person to him for a tour during our walk).
Loved this walk and highly recommend.
**Wear good sturdy walking shoes. (The advantages of a private tour.) We pedaled away from the town to a different neighborhood where inside staircases were designed to go on the outside saving interior space. We stopped at a vast indoor market where we picked up necessities and had gratis coffees from our guide. It was great to explore the vast array of bike paths during our 7 miles. A former teacher, Guy learned more English for the job.
