If you ever get a chance to visit Quebec City, do! It’s an amazing city with a vibrant culture. It offers an old world feel, similar to European cities. I’m just wrapping up a 6 day visit, and am already thinking about a return trip.

There are gardens everywhere, beautiful, historic architecture, and a great café scene where you can dine on just about any kind of cuisine. It’s a wonderful spot for just walking around and absorbing the culture.

I will add, however, that the streets are very hilly and are cobblestone paved, so might be difficult to navigate for those who need walking assistance.

It's not exactly cheap to visit this impressive waterfall, which is actually much taller (though narrower) than Niagara Falls itself.

However, there are activities for both families and thrill-seekers on-site. Children can play, adults can hike, and there's a 487-step staircase for anyone wanting to reach the top of the waterfall without paying extra for the cable car. For the daring, there's also the option of ziplining across the falls. At the top, there's a bridge spanning the waterfall, allowing you to look down on the dramatic scene below.

You can buy snacks and souvenirs, get splashed at the foot of the waterfall, use clean restrooms, and all in all, spend a pleasant 1-2 hours in the area.

North America’s oldest street, Petit Champlain, is just as charming as described in words and pictures. But it’s also extremely crowded and outrageously expensive.

A recommendation would be to buy a (relatively) cheap to-go coffee somewhere and head to one of the comfy chairs in Urban Garden, located at the far end of the street.

Here, you can sit for free among flowers and fresh herbs, enjoying the neighborhood without being overcharged at a café or restaurant on the main street.

We were in Quebec City Wednesday & Thursday, August 7-8, 2024. The peak of tourist season, yet Terasse Dufferin remained nearly deserted. Most tourists walk through here at some point, but most rarely linger or sit to admire the beauty that surrounds it, or to learn the history of this spot. It is the original site of Fort St. Louis built in 1620. Much of the history and artifacts still remain (and can be visited) beneath the Terasse.
On top the terrasse you are treated to spectacular views of the St. Lawrence River below. Catch the Funicular here to get to the lower city or just sit on one of the benches to watch people go by in front of the magnificent Hotel Frontenac building. Often one will hear music or song from a street performer here as we did. If you can, spend some moments here to enjoy the scenery or reflect on the history of this spot.

We visited on our family vacation, 5 travelers, all adults. The stop is accessible from the hop on hop off bus of the city; there are 1 hour tours available (fee) to tour the grounds and learn about Quebec City’s history. There are certain tour times which have extra attractions such as the military band playing and the noon canon shot. There are fantastic views of the city and St. Lawerence River. Great historical stop and a nice break if you are riding the bus.

The Place Royale is a lovely town square for walking around in and enjoying the history on Quebec City. Of interest are the different roof styles, reflecting English, French, and Canadian influences.

Note that the pink balloon babies are a temporary art installation “Mignonisme” by Philippe Katerine.

To reach the lower town you either take the funicular from the Dufferin terrace for 5 CAD one way/per person (the entrance is located inside the glass square houses right near the statue - don't forget to press on the door to access this area) with the capacity of the funicular of max 6-8 people and going every minute, reaching the old town in 1 minute.

The other option is to walk all the way here, if you have the energy, and immerse yourself in more touristic attractions with lots of over prices cake shops/ice cream shops/nougaterie or restaurants and fashion shops far detached from the French or European fashion though.

Cobbled streets located near the water, the ferry not far from here, a gorgeous piazza with people watching as in the style you find in most of Med countries, if you are fortunate to be here on a sunny day.

While visiting Fairmont Le Chateau Fronternac, Upper Town or Haute-Ville is right there. Lots of quaint shops and restaurants. The locals are friendly and a couple different people approached us to help with directions. Well worth the time to tour the area.

We were lucky the ferry was just a 10 minute walk from our rental. There is parking down there as well. It runs frequently so we didn’t need to wait. It is a quick efficient way to get from 1 side of the river to another. Staff was polite. The ferry was clean.

Plains of Abraham must be the most varied park in all of Canada. There’s something for everyone, and you could wander around for hours without seeing it all.

Beautiful flower beds, imposing cannons and war history, a great museum, excellent running trails, concert venues—and I’m sure I’ve forgotten half of it.

If you have an hour to spare, come and enjoy the park’s many facets.

The best parts were the Gladiator exhibit and the farce act by acrobats near the lobby (several show times per day) . My kids loved both. The "First Nations" exhibit had some interesting sections. I had no idea there were so many designs of snowshoes. We skipped the wresting section since it is a sport that has no interest for us. All and all, it was worth the visit.

Quick way to go up and down the cliff from upper town to the lower town. Cost is $5 CAD/person each way, cash only. Highly recommend walking if able bodied but, it is worth at least one trip for the novelty and the view.

If you enjoy tobogganing a high speeds this is the attraction for you. We enjoyed the ride. Would have rode it more if it had not been so cold and windy the day we were there. The staff were friendly: at the bottom making sure everyone got a toboggan in an orderly fashion; at the top gaving instructions in a clear, consise manner.

This was a great aquarium. It had lots to see and provided a few hours of entertainment for our family. There were a couple touch tanks that we spent lots of time at and the staff were knowledgeable/helpful and spoke well, in English. There were a couple small sharks, that my kids thought were cool

Named after the Governor General of Canada from 1872 to 1878, Lord Dufferin. Make sure to walk the ‘Promenade des Gouverneur’s’ when you visit Quebec.

I like to plan my trip and prepare where to start and which spots will come as my day progresses.

I had 2 options to visit the Plains of Abraham
    1) from Saint Louis st, and
    2) From Governors’ Promenade- I chose this

At 655m long with 308 steps it makes for one of the most memorable walks you will take when you visit Quebec. The ‘promenade’ takes you from Terrasse Dufferin. It connects the boardwalk in front of the Chateau Frontenac to the southernmost point of the Citadel to the Plains of Abraham. It hangs off Cap-Diamant. The Dufferin Terrace is close to the famous Chateau Frontenac hotel, the Funicular, and the Breakneck Stairs that connect Upper Town to Lower Town.

The elevated promenade stretches along the Citadel with the fortification wall on one side, and a gorgeous view of the St. Lawrence River on the opposite side. You can start at either end of the boardwalk. This is a great free activity where you can get some exercise, enjoy the scenery, and make your way from one destination to another.

Walking the Governors’ Promenade usually ensures that you climb a whole bunch of uphill staircases and steps – at least over 300 (You can do vice versa as well) start from the Plains of Abraham and come to the boardwalk but normally you start the day from the famous spot so it's highly unlikely you will climb down

Governors’ Promenade is- where the Citadel meets the Plains of Abraham park along the cliff edge. The Battle of Abraham was fought here many years ago; now, the area is a sprawling park with many picnic tables and trees. The Plains of Abraham is a great place to relax or have a picnic in the sunshine.

Moreover, from this vantage point, you will take hundreds of pictures. It makes for breathtaking views of the St-Lawrence River, the Ile d”Orleans, and the city.
