- Susan H15 contributionsCelebrating Our Birthdays in the Yukon – A Trip to Remember!
Spending our birthdays in the Yukon was an unforgettable experience! From breathtaking landscapes to unique adventures, every moment felt like a gift. One of the highlights of our trip was our aurora viewing experience with Northern Tales on January 27th.
Although the northern lights weren’t visible to the naked eye, our knowledgeable guide showed us how to capture their beauty through our camera. We were treated to a cozy warming cabin, delicious snacks, and incredible hospitality that made the night even more special.
This trip was everything we could have hoped for and more. The Yukon’s natural beauty, combined with the warmth of its people, made for the perfect birthday celebration. If you're looking for an adventure, Northern Tales is a must for an authentic and unforgettable northern lights experience!Written February 2, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. During the first half of the day, they go through all the theory related to topographic maps and compasses. You'll get to see different types of maps, take a look at different compass models, do a few theoretical exercises and have all your questions answered. I finally got some of the more complicated questions I had about this elucidated. It's so refreshing to learn from people who love what they are doing.
The second half of the day, you go into the field for the practical part - and that's where the real fun begins: you get your map, a compass of your choice (which you get to swap with a different model whenever you want), and a list of navigation tasks that you need to accomplish, finding your way around the forests, hills and lakes. If you run into difficulty, they're always eager to help. So much fun!
After the course was finished, I felt really confident about reading a topographic map and finding my way around by using a compass. I also knew exactly what features I want my compass to have, for my upcoming adventures into the wild.
I highly recommend this course.Written October 4, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. A group of four adults who love dogs. We had a glorious afternoon of gentle canoeing the first afternoon taking off from behind the lodge followed by a delicious dinner of bison steak prepared by Manuela. Breakfast the next morning was excellent and we departed at 9am for a spectacular day of canoeing at a different location. Some fun rapids of various levels added a little excitement. Stopped for a great lunch and carried on for more gorgeous scenery by canoe. Jeff was a skillful guide and he brought the dog named Little One along for the day.
As for the huge dog yard…We enjoyed helping to give the 124 dogs on the property their dinner and water in the evening and watching some return to their spots from being out for exercise in the larger pens. We went out for an evening walk with the 3 month old husky puppies and their mom which was a ton of fun. An incredible facility with a huge number of dogs who howl and bark from time to time but didn’t interrupt our sleep. A lot of them are retired and roam freely outside and inside the lodge and are very friendly. There’s even a bald eagle that visits regularly. If you are afraid of dogs, this is not the place for you. If you are comfortable with dogs, these ones are really happy and fun to be around.
The lodge was clean, the rooms and shared bathrooms were spacious and very clean (and dog free). This is not a luxury spot - it’s a rustic lodge that is very comfortable and friendly. There’s a fridge for guests to use and a large common area to relax in and a large deck that was fabulous in the summer with a gorgeous view.

We saw the northern lights and went dog sledding, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. We were novices but it didn't matter. There was plenty of instruction and help along the way. The guides were all so wonderful and everything ran so smoothly, from being picked up at the airport, to all the events. We can't wait to go back. We loved every minute, including the wildlife park and hot springs too. Although temps dropped to well below freezing, we were fine in our good quality arctic range gear. We also really appreciate the extra effort from the Arctic staff to make bookings for events at the last minute. We truly appreciate the top notch company and tour!Written February 21, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Flyer397909808971 contributionThe 4-day, 3-night tour with Mr. Chua was exceptional. Despite our last-minute booking due to personal reasons, Mr. Chua was always patient and responsive to all our questions. Our private tour included a variety of activities, such as aurora viewing, a city tour of Whitehorse and Carcross, dog-sledding, a hot spring spa visit, and a wildlife zoo tour. We enjoyed every experience. However, it would have been even better if the dog-sledding session had been shortened to 30 minutes, or perhaps if we can take a leisurely walk with the dogs through the woods. We didn’t realize how tiring the dog-sledding would be.
And the most important part of this trip, the aurora viewing, Mr. Chua’s cabin is the perfect place for it—I absolutely loved the serenity there. Although we weren’t the luckiest in terms of seeing the northern lights, as we didn’t witness a full aurora outburst during our stay, simply lying in the snow, gazing at the stars, was profoundly calming, and it made the experience unforgettable.
Thank you, Mr. Chua, for this remarkable tour. We look forward to returning in the summer to explore yet another side of the beautiful Yukon. Hopefully, next time we’ll have better luck with the airline standby availability!Written February 1, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Wow! What an absolutely fabulous half-day snowmobile adventure with Raphael! From start to finish, the experience was seamless and well-organized. We were picked up directly from our hotel in Whitehorse and whisked away to the breathtakingly beautiful Fish Lake area.
Upon arrival, we were provided with proper snowmobile attire to keep us warm and comfortable. Before setting off, Raphael gave a thorough and in-depth safety lesson, ensuring that everyone felt confident and prepared for the ride. His professionalism, kindness, and charm made the experience even more enjoyable.
The ride itself was nothing short of incredible—stunning landscapes, thrilling trails, and an unforgettable adventure through the Yukon wilderness. Raphael was a fantastic guide, making sure we were safe while also keeping the tour exciting and fun.
I highly recommend the half-day snowmobile tour with Up North Adventures—it’s an absolute must for anyone looking to explore the Yukon in an exhilarating way!Written February 2, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I took the Ruby Range hiking and camping trip in June.
Everything was great, starting with the communication to schedule and organize the trip, continuing with the punctuality of all the members of Terre borrale, the excellent guidance of Edouard (our hiking mountain guide), every food was home made and felt heart warming and nutritious, the helicopter ride and the views of the mountains in the range during the daily hikes, camping in the wild, the flora and the fauna left me amazed.
The staff and experience provided by Terre Borrale was very professional and at the same time very friendly. I'm looking forward to going on other trips with them.Written November 11, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. She is an amazing person who loves her dog and curated an adventure day for us. - gottago2012Montreal, Canada117 contributionsThis is a highly professional rafting company. The Tatshenshini River is in a stunning location with spectacular views. It has major continuous rushing rapids that are not for the faint of heart in the first week of July. Be prepared for adventure and a likely topple out of the raft. It is not easy to get to the side to safety so you need to have your wits about you and be a good swimmer. The crew are skilled at helping you. Earlier in June the water was lower so likely delivered a more family friendly experience, as seems likely later in the season as well. As lots of questions at the start of the day! They have great equipment and are well organized and friendly. A very special thank you to Kevin, the owner. He knows why.Written July 3, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- KathySarnia, Canada26 contributionsOn July 6,2024, my husband and I (60+) went on the full day Yukon River canoe trip with Yukon Wide Outfitters ( Thomas deJager) . Our guide was Liam and other support guides were Juan and Olek. There was one other guest traveling so we were a group of 4.
We had the most awesome day!!! Liam was the most amazing, informative, supportive, and FUN guide, but ever conscientious of safety as a first priority.
It was a day we will never forget and we thank this amazing Outfitter company for giving us the opportunity to canoe the Yukon River!Written July 8, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The guide team of Leon, Justin and Jeremy was congenial, knowledgeable, fun, professional, skilled on the river and skilled in the outdoor kitchen. We ate fabulous menus with lots of fresh vegetables and fruit. They even baked 2 cakes for us. The terrain is mind blowing - glaciers, alpine meadows, rock strewn mud flats, mountains, mountains and more mountains. Saw a lot of animal tracks. Watched a grizzly climb a rock cliff. Two nights slept to the booms of glaciers calving. This is a camping (not clamping) experience. You pitch your own tent. You sleep on the ground. All the camping gear is provided. All was in excellent condition. Worth every pennyWritten August 5, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ina2 contributionsThis trip has been an experience of a lifetime! I cannot but award excellent for everything, beginning with the general organization (fitting of lifejackets - required by law- and paddles, the 5 hour trip in the van from Whitehorse to Rose River Number One), the intensive and very patient teachings of our German guide Wolfgang on the innumerable tracks of wolf, bear, moose, beaver... and on how to fish (I caught my first pike!), to the amazing cooking abilities of our German Yukonite guide Robert, who surprised us with three delicious meals a day, fresh fruit and vegetables included! And who never lost patience in answering our many questions. And ending with the perfect weather (only half a day of light rains)! An altogether amazing and awesome experience, the vastness and silence of Yukon nature and rivers are still with me weeks later... A highly recommendable tour (just make sure to bring a winter sleeping bag, even summer nights in the Yukon can be quite cold!)Written August 22, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
