A crisp morning in September and we all sat engrossed in Leo’s stories. He is a true lover of the outdoors and his animals and conservation . His care for his buffalos shines through and we learnt so much in a quiet understated way. Fun, entertaining and educational and a few of buffalos up close.

This is one of the oldest wooden bridges in Golden. It’s just a pedestrian bridge but fascinating to see.

Quick side trip during stopover in Golden. Interesting to hear about conservation activities and see the wolves and the sponsorship of the people who run the site. Site talk was interactive and hosts were very knowledgeable.

Whitetooth offers great beer and great staff. Been coming to the brewery since it opened. Order from Reposados or Red Tomato pies to complete the experience.

The brewery hosts ski movie showings in the early season.

Beautiful walk along the river, across the pedestrian wooden bridge to the confluence with the Columbia River. Mountains all around! Quite lovely, flat, many locals with their dogs.

Not very populated, great nature, we did the trail twice in 2009 and then 2013. The way up to the start of the trail was washed out and good we had a 4Wheel drive. The trail itself is well maintained, but traces od bears along the hike. The trail is not steep, but you need some condition, there are some stoney sections, but nothing to worry about. In 2009 we even saw a grizzly approaching us from the other side of the lake. I would recommend this trail for a group. Not sure how a local sees it, but despite the well maintained trail, you are a bit away from the town. The lake is wonderful. The mountains as well. The outhouse was destroyed by an avanlanche in 2013. Check about the road condition up to the trail start before you decide to walk this trail. As said, it was pretty rough in Oct 2013.

We had an amazing guys trip at Chatter Creek, and can't wait to go back. The atmosphere is so casual and the surroundings so beautiful with a very well run operation. Food was outstanding, including accommodation of a food allergy. The skiing was epic. Can't wait to go back!

We were in Golden on the day of Queen Elizabeth’s funeral and a lot of places were shut. In the morning we were on the pedestrian bridge and it blew a very unpleasant wet gale but by the afternoon things had brightened up so we decided to walk some of the Rotary trail as suggested by our hosts. We’d driven down the ice fields parkway the previous day and wanted a slower time. We walked initially along the Kicking Horse river to the confluence which was easy and interesting. We have seen the Columbia river further south in the USA so was interesting to see it closer to its source. This was a flat pleasant walk obviously enjoyed by many locals with and without dogs.
We walked some of the trail the other side of the bridge too. What a good idea of the Rotary to instigate and maintain these trails. Well done.

The Columbia River is a big deal both North and South of the border and the vast wetlands extending up from Invermere in BC through Golden and out past Donald are pretty spectacular. Driving up from Invermere with the river to the West you get an idea of the flood area but it;s not until you get up high that you cab really get an idea of the extent of the wetlands south of Golden BC. The best view is surely from the Top of the Forest Service Road uptowards Mt. 7 from Upper Golden (Near the Cemetery). That's where I took the shot I'm going to try and post here. It's a decent road most of the time and can usually be driven with care in a sedan. It's frequently graded but there are a couple of rough patches. I drove it in an SUV and it was no trouble. At the top is a summit fro the Hadgliders and such light and it is frequent and popular jump off point in the summer.

Canada. Land of the silver birch; home of the beaver. Where still the mighty moose wanders at will. It’s a big land of opportunity. And I, a visitor, confounded by the size and majesty of this country, sought only a focal point for guidance and musings with which to supplement my visitations. A centre for visitors. A visitor’s centre.

I parked, tentative. Was this really the centre for visitors? The place where, in the sprawling, thick, proud landscape of British Columbia, all visitors could recalibrate their position and venture forth into the frontier. I was not disappointed.

    I visited. I saw. I centred.

The lake was awesome. Lots of water activities. Campsite was well maintained. As it says in their website, its close to train tracks, thus you get woken up at night with train passing. But we fall back asleep too quickly its so minor.

This neat little stop is about 30 km south of Golden on the Trans Canada Hwy. If you don't know it's there you're likely to miss it.

We were there in March 2021 when there was still quite a bit of snow on the ground so we didn't stay long but it was neat to see. In warmer months you could enjoy sitting at one of the benches and taking in the mountain views. Our kids fell in love with a friendly dog that greeted us upon arrival.

Worth the stop if you're in the area, and then you can say your saw the world's largest paddle.

The fact that this camp ground is only 10km from home doesn't stop us heading up there multiple times a year, for a weekend or for a week, heading to work from there. The lake is small and the edges are a bit sludgy and smelly and watch out for the broken glass left behind by the idiots. The camp spots are great...you would never guess you were as close to town as you are..... the bugs can be awful....but with good bug defences they are survivable! There are literally hundreds of bike trails...head to town and refresh at the white tooth brewery....head upward and stop for a refuel at the double black at the ski hill for the best nachos in town

I was up at kicking horse and went for a walk. Found Mt Dawn and the Nordic Ski club quite by accident. Went inside the lodge area and met super friendly and helpful people. I ended up hiring some snow shoes for around $20 with poles. I then embarked on a stunning trail walk in the snow. Went around the frozen lake and then up on the longer track on the ridge. Scenery was amazing as was the peacefulness and serenity. Had a lovely time doing something I had never done before

A fine River side walk will take you to Spirit Square and the amazing Covered woodern Bridge and the adjoining walks make Spirit Square a must see in Golden. Listen to the samll water feature and smell the garden flowers or take a break in one of the adjoining patios and truly smell the coffee (or in my case taste a cold beer!).
