What travellers are saying
- Paul HExeter, UK6 contributionsEasy to get to from Campbell River about ten minutes in a car. Parking was easy, but we were at the end of the season. Short ish walk to the falls which are spectacular. Plenty of trails to explore and we'll worth the visit.Written September 25, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - FlyingOftenSouth San Francisco, CA173 contributionsMy wife and I did the short hike from the parking lot to the suspension bridge. It was a fairly simple hike. We then went to the rocks close to the river. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that rocks were so uneven, and I fell and scrapped my knee and elbow.
Tom at the information center had a first aid kit, and I was able to disinfect and bind my wounds.Written June 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sally MChampaign, IL4 contributionsDon’t be fooled but the size of the building. This little museum is jam packed with excellent exhibits. The staff are friendly, helpful amd more than willing to provide tidbits of information. This is great for smaller children as they can see and touch so many different critters. The octopus put on quite a show for us.Written August 8, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Redkitewatcher64Andover, UK2,126 contributionsWe didn't actually make it to the hatchery as we visited in the morning and late afternoon and each time the hatchery wasn't open. However from the car park at the hatchery itself there are a series of footpaths that run alongside the Quinsam River . We were very keen to see bears and our accommodation provider recommended taking a walk along the river , this we did from the hatchery and also by parking in the lay by just before the hatchery and walking through the bushes on the footpath. Its a lovely walk along a well made path through the trees and right along the river bank and takes you from the lay by right to the hatchery. In a couple of places there are wooden broadwalks and steps up some of the steeper areas. As well as a wealth of small woodland birds we also got close up sightings of Turkey Vultures and Bald Eagles eating the dead salmon. However the highlight of our visit was being able to watch black bears fishing on the river, made very special that we were the only people there. We went every morning and evening for three days and each time we watched several bears fishing. However be careful they are wild animals , and a visit is not for the faint hearted. Our landlady said that the previous week some guests were fishing and a bear came down and started examining their rucksacks they had left on the bank. We kept our distance but at one point the bear took us by suprize and changed direction and jumped up on the path we were walking on. Luckily we had read up on what do in bear encounters : walked backwards slowly ( although we realised the bear could walk faster towards us then we could walk backwards!), made ourselves as big as possible whilst saying Whoa bear. The bear stopped about 20 feet in front of us , took a look and then walked off into the woods. Although we didn't need them , we were glad that our landlady had given us a warning alarm and bear spray, so enjoy this beautiful place and its wildlife but be careful.( Photos were taken over several days and with a zoom lens on camera)Written November 26, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Douglas CLadysmith, Canada50 contributionsThis place is awesome and perfect with the drought this year. We were able to get out on the rocks for photos. Quite a hike down and back up but well worth the trek.Written September 25, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Some interesting forest segments, marred a little by a couple coastline vistas along the way that are rather industrial looking, but that is also reality. Be sure and read the plaque at the trailhead about the Seymour Narrows engineering work in the 1950’s, it makes your final end-of trail view much more meaningful.
Two things to know
1-there is a trail fork right at the end, the left side goes up a big staircase. You may be tired and want to skip it, DON’T, the view is way better than than the trail forking right. In 10 minutes, you can see both anyway.
2-this hike is nice, but Elk Falls waterfall and suspension bridge was shorter and more impressive if you are only going to have time for a single hike in Campbell River.Written September 27, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. If you have a dog, note the metal stairways so the suspension bridge. Instead, take them to the opposite way to another platform where you have a better view and hike.Written July 22, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Elizabeth GBurgess Hill, UK262 contributionsWe booked a tour and taste. Our guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the product and where she worked. It’s a small distillery, but it was worth the talk. The magic happens right in front of you. The tasting was great, we came away with a bottle. It didn’t last long. Worth a visit.Written July 6, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
