- Henry’s TakeSan Diego, CA1,150 contributionsTrail Series, Part 26
The Burnaby Mountain Trail has made me begin to wonder if I am developing a serious dependence on the British Columbia trail system. You see it doesn’t seem to matter how many of them I run, I only seem to long for more.
This location features a series of interconnected trails that are mostly technical in nature. I believe they can best be described as mountain bike trails that you are allowed to run or hike on. There are multiple bike jumps to navigate, numerous bridges to cross, frequent rocks and roots to avoid, and the downhills are fairly steep. Strollers and wheelchairs are not recommended and those with mobility issues would likely prefer to avoid this venue.
Although you’ll be surrounded by a dense blanket of trees, the trail offers occasional glimpses of some of the high rises in the greater Vancouver area.
I found ample available parking on the adjacent Simon Fraser University campus for a nominal fee.
If you’re ready for a technical run (or ride), this place is for you.
And that’s…Henry’s Take.

It has a huge selection of international, Canadian, luxury and budget brands. It is very centrally located with the Sky Train and bus stations right next to the mall. The food court has a huge choice and there are other eating joints spread across the mall. The overall cleanliness of washrooms was very disappointing as I have not seen such poorly maintained washrooms in Canada. Overall, a great place to spend a rainy afternoon, or for a one-stop shopping expedition.Written August 31, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Given the sultry weather we've been having lately, I'm surprised there aren't more reviews touting the great number of options this park offers. While there is a fitness circuit, children's playground, and various picnic areas; I go for the well-shaded trails.
The well mapped network of trails allows you to plan your time for short, middle, or long distance, depending on your time and stamina. I have a one hour seven K route that I can use to compete against myself. There are at least three washrooms along this interior route (away from car noise and exhaust) and various benches and rest areas for those who might need them. Don't blame the hot weather for being unable to exercise - take the air-conditioned Skytrain to the park's NE entrance.Written July 20, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - deepakgupta5Vancouver, Canada593 contributionsThe park is dedicated to the former mayor of Burnaby and it seems it was his favourite walking area. It is a lovely park with plenty of options. You can have a picnic or a barbecue, or go fishing or swimming or kayaking. It is very popular with dog owners as this is an off-leash park and dogs can be seen running around on the grass or darting into the water. There is a very nice walking trail which takes around the waterfront. All in all, a great place to spend morning or afternoon or evening depending on your preferenceWritten April 28, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - deepakgupta5Vancouver, Canada593 contributionsThis is a lovely park located in North Burnaby. You can go for long walks or choose to enjoy great water views. The trails are easy and have various loops that allow you to choose how much you want to walk on a given day. They can be bit narrow in spots, abut on the positive side, most trails are well shaded - which can be a very important factor on a hot day. To cool-down, you canstroll to the waterfront, where you will be able to see a host of birds and enjoy the large lake in the middle of the city.Written May 22, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Chris DNew Westminster, Canada3,330 contributionsHaven't been here for over a year. Usually come to enjoy a walk along the river on a hot day, when the trees provide enough shade to keep the walk comfortable.
However, ever mindful of Covid, spending more time meeting friends in the open air, rather than in restaurants. So, when it was suggested a meeting here one afternoon, I thought it worth a try. Not disappointing - lots of parking, typical park benches for picnicking or just sitting, clean restrooms, a play area for young children, and a great view of the river.
