- lindsay j3 contributionsCandle lake itself is a Great Lake. It’s beautiful scenery. We are family of four coming here for the first time. Knowing nothing of the area, we found it hard to navigate the park. There are supposed “trails” that travel through the populated area. Some of these trails are extremely difficult to follow as they go from good trail to road to grass path to road to highway. There is one single map that doesn’t include any roads so it’s impossible to navigate.
They have a wheelchair friendly trout pond to fish. The trail goes to a dock. It’s a bit amusing because absolutely nothing else in the park is really wheelchair friendly. (Our daughter is in a wheelchair)We tried calling the park office to see where a good place to go canoeing on a windy day was (the lake was really choppy), they are closed on the weekend… !?!? Pretty disappointed with the provincial park.Written August 22, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We were told later at East trout Lake that this campsite is always full and people stay there for long periods of time. There are minimal choices in the area we could have drove back and stayed at Pipprel lake where the sites are seasonal but if there was an opening a very nice lady said we could have rented one. Because it was all in the bush closed in not by the lake and mosquites were the absolute worst ever we opted to check out the campsites further ahead at East Trout Lake. First one was of course FULL we learned later that June is fishing month so everyone was camping and fishing. Many sites are only seasonable to this makes it miserable for people like us who are just looking for place to camp.
We were upset with the signage at the campground at Clarence Steepbank whatever you do DO NOT follow the sign that shows campgrounds further down passing Kits lake...its is a quad trail actually and it was so slowing going i was sick from motion of rocking back and forth with the camper trying to navigate the road. There was nothing at Kits lake for camping and it was getting late so we turned around.
We finally camped at the Pine Grove resort at the end of the line in a nice tenting spot with partial lake view. It was managed by an older woman who was an angel and saw me crying cause i was exhausted from the day and searching for campsites and let us stay bless her heart. Flush pottys a store and showers were welcome for 44.00 and we would stay in this well run private campground anytime! the dock here was beautiful and it was not busy yet except for 1000s of skeeters LOLWritten June 22, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We started on the back nine and the opening holes were unremarkable until holes 16-18, which played near the lake. The front nine was more interesting to play. We had a meal after the round in the upstairs restaurant. Food and service were excellent. Lots of renovations going on in the main building.Written June 25, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
