- LJS047Victoria, Canada25 contributionsImagine a perfect sunny day. The ocean is calm, looking like glass. You are on an island spit, surrounded by distant mainland mountains. Just as you are trying to take in all this beauty, a humpback whale is spotted just off shore, cruising down the coast. It's so quiet, one is able to hear the regular blows, and see the spouts and tail of this huge creature.
This was our experience at Rebecca Spit Marine Park.
Follow this surreal experience with an easy hike around the spit, and you have pretty much a perfect morning.Written September 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. You'll catch fish, see eagles and they will take any of your fish you care to throw back! Whales Orcars, Sea Lions, Sea Otters and Dolphins. - KawkawaVernon, Canada560 contributionsA picturesque old lighthouse on Cape Mudge.. we hiked the beach from Tsa-Kwa-Luten Lodge to visit the lighthouse... it is about a 20 minute walk along the beach... interesting to see what appears to be the old fog horn and the newer installation...worth a look when on Quadra Island..Written July 31, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BeachpipiTasmania, Australia67 contributionsWe climbed in the morning when it was cooler; the walk took us about 2 hours return and was very enjoyable. It was very quiet, we met one couple on our ascent. The view from the top are well worth the effort of the climb, which can be quite steep in part.Written July 30, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JhuttySurrey, Canada28 contributionsWas not expecting to go through a treacherous driving route to get to this mine. The drive included an unpaved narrow road around bends off mountain sides... at times only wide enough for one car though it’s a main road. As you get closer to the actual mine the hill is steep and completely off road. Fortunately we were travelling in a wrangler and made it down and back up safely. I would recommend parking at the last sign that says mine to the left and hike down and hike back up. The walk will be 5-10 mins down and maybe 10-15 on the way back up. It’s very secluded so beware because you’re in a forest.Written September 5, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - FarFlungStarlingQualicum Beach, Canada959 contributionsAccess this park, dock and hiking trails by gravel roads actively traveled by logging trucks. The roads are narrow and wind so visibility is sometimes very limited. Drive slowly and use caution. We drove to the Surge Narrows Trail which is fairly challenging as it is narrow and overgrown, sometimes difficult to find and it requires some climbing over and around obstacles and up and down hills. Someone hung a pair of crutches over the sign at the trails entrance. Quite funny! The trail provides some scenic views out over Surge Narrows but most of it is bush wacking. The road down to the boat ramp is very steep - you need 4WD to use it.Written June 16, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
