It is what it is, a ruin of an abbey, it’s of course very historical, but the most important part of it is the grounds and the history that surrounds it, this is the site where the christian leaders in the uk voted to abandon Celtic christianity and adopt the Roman church, this moment in history has echoed through time and still does today down to the fact the vote was not unanimous, the monks of Lindisfarne were also at the meeting and voted against becoming roman catholic as a result they went on to travel around the other Celtic regions of the UK (Scotland, Ireland, Wales) to inform those peoples of the result of the reform vote which created a divide that still exists even to today. for me it it not worth the entrance fee unless you want to feet your feet on ground that is historical and have an interest in that event, of course other things are associated with the Abbey later in time, including the destruction by Henry VIII, as well as the association with Dracula,

Absolutely adored this museum and wish I lived nearby to visit on a regular basis. Loved everything about it especially the Edwardian ambience and will certainly be revisiting the next time Im in Whitby. Finished our visit with a spot of lunch in the cafe, a visit to the art gallery, followed by a walk through the park with a great Jurassic garden and play park. So many treasures in this museum.

An all round lovely experience, even on a wet and muddy day.

Friendly staff, good coffee and beautiful surroundings - peeing while listening to rain on the roof and the stream was pretty surreal, but I loved it! 😍

Will definitely call in again if we're in the area.

Really good views of the town all the way up. A couple of places to stop on the way up if you are struggling. I thought it was worth it.

The ocean is lovely here, comes right up to the walk way and a few fish and chip/ice cream shops dotted around. Very clean area.

A beautiful part of the UK. Peace and tranquility reign in a fishing harbour fresh out of a bygone era. A simply stunning place to just watch the world go by and appreciate life in all it's glory.
The sea air cleanses your spirit, washes away the worries and makes you feel glad to be alive.
You won't even think about vampires, you won't notice the myth even exists.

Very interesting place with great views of the local area. Inside was very busy with little ability to get past people. Although interesting to look inside I felt a little bit uncomfortable being in there. There are people there for spiritual reasons and the other half like myself just to have a look around so I felt quite intrusive.

Great museum and very insightful. Staff and volunteers are excellent. Lots of interest for children too. The entry ticket is valid for a year which is excellent value and there is a changing exhibition so you get to see something different when you return perhaps. A controversial character and era and the museum has left me with an interest to read further. I loved the georgian architecture and history too. Highly recommended and will definitely return.

Great little museum. Our 6 year old was fascinated. Lots to look at and he absolutely loved dressing up as an RNLI crew and playing in the boat.

We usually walk all the way down to the end where the lighthouse is - to feel more like we are in the sea, and also to get grat views of Whitby. However, it was very blustery, with warnings about the sea and wind so only went half way. It was that windy we haad to take our hats off even! Lovely walk though and the wind certainly took our breath away (literally). Don't miss visiting this spot when visiting

Amazing and rare dog-free space for young families. Don't have to worry about dogs running around or dog mess. Wish there were more parks like this.
