- rayjaybossmamaMatamata, New Zealand24 contributionsPluscarden Abbey is one of my favourite places in the world. It is so peaceful and so beautiful. Mostly everything is run on an honesty policy-so make sure you have money with you and not just a card. The little gift shop is full of lovely treasures, again you leave payment in the honesty box/safe if it's not manned. We like to look out for the abbey cat-usually to be found relaxing somewhere funny like on the shop counter. Couldn't find them this time though :( There is a beautiful long winding driveway up to the abbey from the car park-you can park outside the abbey if you have elderly/disabled guests with you. A must-do on your visit to the highlands! Thank you to all who maintain this beautiful, special place.Written August 25, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. He told me about it but then left me to wander around at my own leisure. There was no one else there. It’s a gem.Written August 14, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Alexander K26 contributionsVisiting Benriach distillery was an unforgettable experience, made even better by our amazing tour guide, Emma. From start to finish, the tour was both incredibly informative and nerdy in the best possible way. Emma's depth of knowledge and passion for whisky-making really shone through, making the entire visit feel like a deep dive into the art and science of whisky.
The highlight of the tour was without a doubt the warehouse. Seeing the vast variety of casks and learning about the different types of wood they use at Benriach was absolutely fascinating. Emma introduced us to unique casks like Chinese oak and Mizunara oak, both of which added layers of excitement and curiosity to the visit. Learning how these unusual wood types impact the whisky was such a cool and unexpected twist!
Having Emma as our guide made it even more special. Her expertise on the different barrels and aging processes really brought the experience to life. She had an answer for every question and shared insights that went beyond the surface, giving us a truly in-depth look at what makes Benriach such an innovative and exciting distillery.
If you’re into the technical side of whisky and want to explore some really unique cask aging methods, a tour at Benriach is a must—especially with a guide like Emma!Written September 20, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ColourtravelsInverness, UK52 contributionsPart two on our little beach tour. Hopeman was always a go to for us when I was little and even now it's never a fail for a day out and an ice cream. The simple pleasures in life :) Always easy to park and stunning views. Even if you stay in the car and just enjoy the view it won't be a bad day out :)Written October 1, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ladyscribeBrighton and Hove, UK196 contributionsOutstanding museum. Beautifully curated, with a huge variety of objects. The signage and explanation leaflets were very good. - CulbinSandsElgin, UK275 contributionsThe dragonflies are back (12/8/2024). They can be seen patrolling the margins on the hunt for mates. I think they are Southern Hawkers. There are two good spots to see them, the central bridge and the small bridge at the west end of the loch, closest to the carpark. Stand on either bridge and you see them searching , moving away and then coming back to the same spot.Written August 12, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
