What travellers are saying
- Jcalvert32551 contributionsWe took a small detour to explore Mellifont Abbey and I'm so glad we did. As a history buff, it was interesting to see the ruins and learn about how they functioned. There is also a lovely picnic area beside a quiet stream. It's very pleasant, and we left a donation at the vistor's center.Written January 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Annie RLeesburg, VA107 contributionsBeautiful church with daily masses, a choir and daily confessions. The architecture is amazing and the church well-preserved in part by keeping the heavy doors locked except for 8-1130 every morning. The local population is demonstrably proud.Written September 20, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- JHollieLondon, UK350 contributionsWhat a pleasure to meet Cara and hear about her lovely home. We really enjoyed our time here and left feeling really delighted that we had been. There is something so much more inviting about visiting a home rather than a monumentWritten August 5, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - petermwachsBelfast, UK44 contributionsWhat a great visit to this wee Gem close to an ancient monastic site!
A most helpful staff, energetic, experienced and very welcoming made our visit a highlight of this Ireland tour for my valued guests
Talking about gin, all its ingredients like juniper, all kind of herbs, flowers and spices.
What a tasting room, wee distillery, and hand production line.
A family business , some 5 years old, run by neighbours and friends of the family.
After starting with gin and vodka, now going into whiskey.
And if the talk, visit and tasting is not enough, you can even join one of the weekend gin schools where you distill your own creation of gin. Wow! Couldn't get any better!Written September 13, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Judy ODublin, Ireland95 contributionsLovely church to pray peacefully or go to Mass. I like to go to pray to St. Anthony and give him the donations I had promised him if he answered my request!Written August 18, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Monica&Alex3 contributionsWe really enjoyed to see how skillful are those kids under the age of 14. Great paintings.
In the other hand private art collection by Raphael Hynes was good but we liked most Carey Clarke, brilliant canvas oil landscapes paintings. Thanks to Highlands Gallery for the chance to visit the exhibition.

It consists of two lofty circular towers, connected together by a wall, in which there is an archway. Visitors can appreciate the spectacular dimensions of the mediaeval walls south of the gate at Featherbed Lane. The attraction is worth seeing until today in very good condition.Written November 6, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Bozeman-DublinTrim, Ireland8,587 contributionsAbsolutely love the monastic site at Monasterboice. Muirdeachs High Cross is magnificent. It features in most Irish school History books and with good reason as it utterly majestic. Very well preserved too considering it's age. The North and West Crosses are also beautiful as is the round tower that dominates the site. The grveyatds and church ruins are so peaceful and serene.
There's a small hut on the way in that was closed on our visit as it's out of season but I'd imagine it may sell souvenirs or even guided tours in summer? There's a decent sized free car park across the road opposite the entrance path and toilet facilities are available.
It's well signposted but it's a bit off the beaten track down tiny back roads. Trust the signs and you'll see the round tower looming as you approach.Written March 10, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
