- Maki ZZurich, Switzerland6 contributionsI'm a solo female backpacker, 21 years old. I met two German girls in front of another club that was closed. We were looking to go out on a Sunday night.
Strolling through Rue de Lappe we tried out every club and bar until we finally settled on Le Balajo. At first we weren't really happy with the music style as the DJ played predominantly French rap (which wasn't bad, we just couldn't sing along). Soon we noticed that the vibe of the people was so good that it outweighed the unknown genre. We were the only tourists there and the French genuinly seemed to enjoy the evening, had fun dance circles and were surprisingly warm-hearted towards us.
As other reviews have already mentioned, the decor was unique and they even had a pole dancer.
We stayed until 2 am and took the night bus back to the hotel.

- JesterFerLondon, UK95 contributionsPopped in here on my way to see a band at the Bataclan. They had a good range of beer, and it was happy hour, so the beer was even better value. Liked it so much we came back after the gig, for another beer before we strolled back to the hotel.
If you want a "real bar", as opposed to something plastic and over polished, I would recommend giving this place a visit. Cant understand why they did not let the audience in earlier, they got bars and pub inside and should sold a lot of drinks at them instead of let the people stand outside in the cold evening. The location is ideal, and the retracting roof is beyond fabulous. The staff were most attentive, but do not go with the expectation that english will be spoken. It was raining and they wouldn't let us in, the doors opened later that they should, the bouncer was rude but that is common everywhere.
