- TravelsfrequentlyTexas40 contributionsFirst class-haha! Took the Paris to Lyon train. Left on time, arrived on time, clean.
“First class” unfortunately had minimal AC, a stinky bathroom by the end of the trip, no ice, zero help with luggage and we rode backwards. If you can find a better train, take it! Or take some nausea medicine with you!Written September 6, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We used this station for outbound journey to Bordeaux recently and found the station fit for purpose.
Station is organised just fine, easy to navigate. Found our platform without problem, boarded train and were on our way. There are a fair number of casual eateries, some retail shops and access to the RER Station for connections further within the city.
Would be perfectly fine taking rail trips out or arriving at Gare Montparnasse again in the future.Written October 5, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I was very pleased and got my early flight with ease. I would suggest that signage could be a bit more evident from the sidewalk.Written May 25, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - therichastillStevenage, UK3,352 contributionsThe Javel station is on the RER line C. Trains from Versailles Chateau stop here. When I visited the station had trains arriving every 30 minutes so there was not a particularly intensive service.
A short distance away is the Javel Metro station and this opens up more opportunities to get to locations.
Javel station is alongside the River Seine and if you go up to ground level you can see the Eiffel Tower and the river.
There is an old style station building which is well maintained.Written October 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Slow process in getting through security and scanning tickets.
The most disappointing thing re customer service is that we wanted to change to the earlier train .We checked on line and there were plenty of empty seats yet they wanted to charge £150 each.Unbelievable especially as a friend was only charged £20 when they changed recently.Written July 16, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There are international trains leaving from here to go to London, Brussels and Amsterdam via the different Eurostar services.
There are also domestic services to places like Lille, Calais and other Northern France towns.
There are local services leaving from the main station and also from the RER platforms below the stations.
In addition there is the Paris metro.
As a result it is a MAJOR transport hub.
It seems that since the Olympics earlier this year they have made an effort to make getting around the station a bit easier. It has improved however I still managed to get lost! I was travelling to Gare du Nord from Gare De Lyon and when I came out onto the lower concourse I got lost and ended up on the wrong side of the station from where I needed to be. With the help of googlemaps I was able to reorientate myself.
Within the station there are a number of retail outlets like Relay where you can get magazines, snacks and drinks for your journey. There are also places to get a coffee or something to eat.
Outside the station it has been transformed. It used to be a dodgy place to go but it is now much tidier. There is even a statue of a bear with wings. There are some fast food outlets here as well. The architecture of the station frontage is quite grand. Understandable for such a major station.
As has previously been mentioned pickpockets are around but that is the same in most major cities nowadays. My advice would be to keep your wits about you and look like you know where you are going.Written October 12, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. He is a born and bred Parisien and knows the roads better than anyone I have ever come across. Simply outstanding.Written March 17, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
